Default 97 Del Sol wont shift into gear when car is on

So i had not driven my car for about 2wks as i was out of town when i returned i tried driving the car would not go into gear i had to push really hard to get it into reverse but would not go back into another gear.

A few dys later i tried again same thing too hard i felt i was gonna break it if i pushed it, so i opened the hood looked around wasted some time while the car was on and went back in and it worked WOW so i drove to a store hung out for about 45mins came back drove home.

A wk later i tried driving same thing wont go into gear, i looked online and couldnt find much, except then i tried shifting when car is off works but when on doesnt work. Also my ebrake has been extremely hard to push down i noticed that before the shifter stopped shifting.

Its a 97 del sol with about 135 miles on it, i bought it from a guy who had a short shifter installed not sure if that matters. Now im stuck and hope to get this fixed.

Any other details need do let me know?

It's either your clutch or your clutch hydraulic system. How does the clutch pedal feel and where does it begin to feel pressure (low to the floor, high up).

Have someone push your clutch pedal and look at the slave cylinder on the lower front of your tranny. As they push the pedal see how much stroke the slave cylinder is providing. If everything is as normal...stroke, fluid level, and pedal feel, then the clutch pressure plate is the issue.

the clutch pedal seems to have pressure towards the bottom, it doesnt really do anything towards the top and it will stay in that position unless i kind of push it in all the way

im gonna get somebody to help me look at the thing you mentioned

if you cant get it in reverse the first time, try putting it in 1st gear and than bring it right to reverse! it should go right in.

sounds like you need to either bleed (hydrolic) or adjust (mechinical) you clutch. try that first!!!!!!

You should feel resistance almost right away when you push the clutch in, sounds like the hydralic system is leaking or has air in it.

well i didnt have anybody to help me check things, so i towed it to a gas station near my place and they said it is the hydraulic pump leaking and its gonna be $1200 to fix it

You would think gas stations would have enough money as it is. That is outragous, That should be what you would pay for a whole new transmission instaled. not just a hydralic cylinder.
