93 civic si oil leak.
Hi Have a Civic SI with a pretty bad engine oil leak / problem. Bought the car a few weeks ago and everything seemed fine. After an oil change and a long trip them oil light came on and I noticed that the whole underside of the car was covered in oil. On close inspection it seems to be coming from somewhere below where the fuel rails connect to the block. There is also a small amount of oil coming out of where the transmission connects to the block. The oil has covered the clutch shift rod and exhaust pipe. I checked the oil filter and it is not that. Also the oil seems to only leak when the car is running.
The car has also since this time started to burn oil quite bad and I hope that it is related to this leak. I checked the radiator and there is no oil in it and also there seems to be no water on the dip stick. Other than that the car runs well.
Any suggestions would be a great help.
thanks,
Travis

oil pan gasket? I put one in my stepsisters 4dr and didnt know it needed some gasket goo to seal properly. It sprayed oil all over the trans and exhaust.
did you do the oil change yourself or did some place do it for you? maybe the oil filter has a hole in it or it isnt on tight... check that first, or bring it to the place that changed your oil, they could tell you where its leaking from
Good luck
Good luck
Thanks for the replies.
I did not do the change myself (last time I am lazy) and took it back to the shop. They inspected it and said it was not an oil change problem and wanted to charge me a bunch of money to diagnose it. This was not a place to let anyone touch my cars engine. The oil change is pushing it. For anyone who has heard of Canadian Tire then they know what I am taking about. Scary.
So it is not the oil change.
I was told maybe valve cover but the leak is under the fuel rail and not leaking from the cover.
Another suggestion was a pressure switch. Would this be able to blow out or leak in a way to evacuate about 4 liters in 4-5 days? Does anyone know how I might check this?
I also got a suggestion of the rear main seal and would like to know if anyone has had this problem and how I might go about checking this?
I have a feeling that it might also be the oil pump but do not know how to diagnose this part. Does anyone know how to check this component or tell me if it is possible for it to leak a large amount of oil?
thanks,
Travis

best thing would be to clean it off, then run it for a few minutes, just enough to see where its coming from but not enough to have oil everywhere.mine leaked from the vtec solenoid gasket but only when the motor was cold.looked like the distributor bushing was leaking, oil on top of motor/tranny and down front.made for a nice smell too...
Okay here you go most common oil leaks on the d16z6. distributor oring and oil seal. How to check pull off the dist cap 3 screws if you see oil inside the cap you have a bad oil seal. Repair: either replace the seal or buy a reman dizzy since its out replace the oring. Vtec solenoid seal use an inspection mirror look around for oil under it. Repair: replace the gasket it is called the spool valve screen. Rear main oil seal symptom: oil leaking from trans access panel, oil burning smell outside car, under carriage covered in oil. Repair: Remove trans, clutch, flywheel pry out seal and replace. Oil pan gasket oil leaking anywhere along the pan. Repair: remove header, remove all bolts around pan, remove trans braces if needed to get access cover off, drop oil pan clean and install new gasket apply sealant around radius to hold gasket in place and reinstall.
