Noise and VTEC RPM?
I sometimes hear this noise from my right side of the car it kind of sounds like an big electric motor running, what could this be? And I also have the Mainte Req light on. What RPM does the VTEC begins at? I just need to know because mine seems to be taking higher RPMS for it to work. I think it might be the VTEC Solenoid.
Any feedback is appreciated.

you need to change your oil
or if you have been changing your oil push the blue button under the dash.
and as far as vtec, it engages at 4400, at around 6000 your gonna hear the secondary intake runners, most people think its vtec because you hear it so much but its unrelated, vtec isnt made to make noise.

Its an 94 Acura Integra GS-R sedan all stock. I just changed the oil, oil filter, and spark plugs. I put 4 quarts of Castrol GTX 10w30 and 1 quart of Lucas oil treatment, so 5 quarts total. Car has 130000 miles.

It could be the ABS pump. When do you hear this noise?

I hear it when I start the car. I don't hear it all the time. I used to put 4 quarts in it. I work at Nappa and their computer recomended 4 quarts for Non VTEC and 5.1 for VTEC. I could be wrong. How many quarts does it has to be for VTEC?

Most likely the electric motor noise is the ABS pump.

It is your maintenance required light reset button. The maintenance required light is based on miles, 7500 IIRC. Hold the button down while the car is on.

I just checked under the dash and found the button. I pressed it while the car was on and the light came off. What about the oil level? Is it OK for a GS-R to have 5 quarts of oil? And there is also another button on the driver side (Left side of the driver) a small black one then there is a small little red light on top of the steering base. What is that button and light for?

You did hear them and never have on a b16 or b17. The only b series motor with them is a b18c1 gsr motor.

What Dogginator said. My ABS pump does it pretty often, it'll buzz when I start the car sometimes then stop in a few seconds. And yes 5 quarts is too much, but just check on the dipstick and see where you're at. The maintenance required light is just for people who have been taking their cars to the dealer since they bought it to get serviced - I ignore mine because I know that it's not on schedule with what I've been doing with my car anymore.

youre hearing vtec most likely but im not too sure the engagement point is at on his car.
only '94-01 GSRs have the secondaries

i thought oil pressure had an effect on vtec engagement... in my buddies 99 gsr, sometimes it engages at different points in different gears, mostly 3rd-5th. we asked a guy at honda and he said rpm have nothing to do with vtec engagement, he said it's oil pressure.
it's weird because my motor it engages exactly at 4400 every time, no matter how much throttle or which gear i'm in.
maybe the honda guy was pullin our chain...
