lightened flywheel for 91 si
hey i have a semi built d16a6 (like all the bolt ons) and i want to run a turbo in the future. I have been looking at clutches and I've heard mostly good things about the action 2ms clutch and i think im going to pick it up. But i'm kinda new and not too sure what a lightened flywheel will do, and if its worth the money. my clutch is shot now and I would like to put the new flywheel in with the new clutch. Im just wondering performance wise what it would do. and what were some good flywheels for my application. (soon turbo, DD, ~300 horse hopefully)
I've heard that a lightened flywheel in a drag racing car can lower potential (stored energy). As less stuff is up to speed when you are at whatever RPM you are at when you dump the clutch. And can slow down the rotating assembly to far during shifts. just what I heard.
I would like to know more myself. And what does the stock one weigh? I have the same setup, 91 si

A stock flywheel ways 18 lbs. A lighter flywheel aint gonna slow you down during shifts, you would have to be a shitty driver or a slow shifter to have a lighter fly to slow you down in a drag race.

yeah i was looking at the action chromoly flywheel to go with my 2ms clutch but if you say they dont do that much i will probably just get the clutch

Is that good information or a dig on an eBay part? I can never tell who's kidding...

well kinda changed my mind again i think im going with the action 2ms and the action chromoflywheel.
1. because i dont know how to resurface the flywheel
2. i figure i might as well try it out and if i dont really like it/ cant tell the difference ill just sell it to a honda kid locally
3. I can give a write up on how much it actually did towards my project.

Take it to the machine shop and tell them you want it resurfaced. 40 bucksish I wouldnt do a light flywheel on a turboed car the motor will slow Way down between gears and youll loose alot of your residual boost pressure. ( i know the bov will get rid of most of it but Id rather start from -5lbs on the next gear than -25 or -30) good luck on the project
What makes cars neat, they bypass all laws of engineering and physics.
Because on anything other then a car a lightened flywheel would be great.
Search here you'll find some useful info. The bad for boost and drag racing myths are silly stories at best with no factual proof myself and other people have NO problem running great times with light flys.
Bisi runs a 6lb fly on his drag car

90-91 Hf flywheels use the same size clutch and PP as dx and Si models but the flywheel is considerably lighter if you choose to use it. I've done this along with use 2 different F1 racing lightened flywheels off ebay for a considerable amount of time with no issues. I love it for down shifting and could'nt imagine not having one. Its so much easier to rev match quicker. Just my opinion anyway
