Boosted GSR question
I sold my car a couple months ago...the person I sold it to really doesn't know too much...so i'm trying to help him out.
Its an OBDI GSR with a recently rebuilt turbo. He saw smoke coming out of the exhaust(oil). It is still burning smoke at idle, maybe rings going out? or could it be something along the lines the oil return being constrictive and making the turbo seals leak...He did a compression test and he told me it was 140 all the way across. That is kind of low isn't it? Would that cause oil to leak at idle?

Was all the cylinders close to each other on the compression check? Have you ever had any problems when the car was in your hands? Sounds like he messed it up bad.
I know he drives the chit out of it...no real problems when I had it, actually made really good power when I had it.(300whp on 8 lbs)
it was 140-140-140-140
it was 140-140-140-140
Sounds to me like the turbo is the issue. Is raw oil in the exhaust? Any oil in the charge pipes? What do the plugs look like? Pull the plugs and look down into the cylinders with a flashlight...oil burning like that should be pooling in the cylinders. Is there an oil restrictor going to the turbo?
Easy to figure out here man....just start doing troubleshooting. In my experience freight train-like smoke is the turbo seals leaking like a stuck pig or TONS of shaft play.

i can only think of two things. bad seals on the turbo or the angle of the return line is not facing straight to the ground. tell him to look at the charge pipes and see if theres any sign of oil in the pipings. And also tell him to check if the return line is facing downwards. Its that or you using a small return hose.
The return line is 3/8 hose and it faces downards, but not continuously. It kind of serpentines around. The turbo has just been rebuilt, so it has new seals. I told him to pull the plugs and check the charge pipes, I will foward the results of that onto here....Thanks for the help so far guys...
