Direct Ignition
I read in the WRX brochure that it has direct ignition, therefore is distributorless. Do ITRs have distributorless ignitions? In doing some research on ignitions, it sounds like the distributorless ignitions are required for variable valve timing:

Yeah, I wondered if Honda would start using it with new models. Distributor cap & rotor wears out eventually - I just had to replace mine in my CRX. Unless there's any negatives, direct ignition has more consistent spark, less parts, and less to wear out.
