Default Direct Ignition

I read in the WRX brochure that it has direct ignition, therefore is distributorless. Do ITRs have distributorless ignitions? In doing some research on ignitions, it sounds like the distributorless ignitions are required for variable valve timing:

the new rsx is direct ignition as are miata's and other newer cars

Yeah, I wondered if Honda would start using it with new models. Distributor cap & rotor wears out eventually - I just had to replace mine in my CRX. Unless there's any negatives, direct ignition has more consistent spark, less parts, and less to wear out.

Ultra's website has no useful info about it. Here is the only decent photo I can find of the MDI installed; someone from H-T posted this pic a few months back:



Maybe Ben (AJPwR) can post some pics of his MDI setup
