Upgraded ignition coil...

Upgraded ignition coil...
I suggest that everyone do this if you havent already. I bought a new cap/rotor and accel direct replacement coil. It was a really easy install, the one thing that took the longest was taking off the rotor because it rusted itself together. After I screwed it all back together, I took it out for a spin. It was deffinetely faster. I now have more lowend torque and better mid-range to redline power. It really pulls pretty good in all gears not just first anymore. And I also think that this ignition has been on the car since mile 1.
So for ignition upgrades I have: new cap/rotor, accel ignition coil, bosch wires and bosch platinum 4 plugs.
Parts:
1- cap and rotor kit------$38.00 autozone
1- accel ignition coil, direct replacement-------$61.00 autozone

Uh oh ive heard bad things about the +4's. I had them also and my car felt alot better once i installed OEM NGKs. Have the same coil and it made my butt dyno happy.

i did an msd cap and coil on my d16z6, huge differace. honda interal coils are weak. but yea, stay with the nkg plugs. deff the best out there.

im pretty sure the b and d series have next to the same hatachi distributors. so prolly the same coil. i know its an internal coil for sure and its very weak. its not hard to upgrade your ignition in the dist but there are a few problems i ran into when i did it. id go with an extrenal coil new cap and rotor. and not the cap and rotor from autozone. msd sells a cool red clear one too. but yea youll feel a huge differance. i know i was pleasntly surprized by the $160 i spent on the msd stuff. let me know if you have questions about installing it. btw i know someone makes a high output intrenal replacement coil also if you wanna keep it lookin stock. idk how good it is tho.

I got a D-series(D15B7). I chose the accel because it was the first one I could find locally and the fact that accel has been in the ignition market for a long time. The coil is a high output direct fit unit. It suposed to increase spark by 30% along with power and torque. I def felt the difference.
Whats the part number for the ngk's? And would'nt the iridiums be too hot for the head/high compression/nitrous?

Re: Upgraded ignition coil...
Ive heard people tell me its helpful to run thicker spark plug wires so I got the accel coil and 8mm accel wire because my factory coil finally bit the dust (I already did the cap+rotor kit about 4 months ago) but is this true?

Re: Upgraded ignition coil...
A thick outer shield on a spark plug wire doesn't carry the spark... the inner core does. A quality core is what is most important.

If you don't mind the money, Aurora Wires in Abbottsford, British Columbia, Canada makes metal wire performance spark plug wires designed for the noisy electricals of our cars. They won't ever need replacing if taken care of properly unlike the carbon wires recommended for these cars (NGK etc).
