Default Throttle Cable?

Has anyone tried tightening up their throttle cable, I've heard this can improve throttle response a bit, but can also cause idle problems. Is this worthwhile to do or is it just a waste of time?

There is a little improvement to be had, but nothing extraordinary. Just takes the slop out of the pedal. If you adjust it right, there is no downside and idle will be fine.

it's easy to adjust right? I think just 2 screws need to be loosend and then adjust a single set screw...Is this correct? I've heard that tightening it up to about half of the slack...if that makes sense...is usually a good setting, thanks for the info.

it's 2 nuts, no set screw. Yea I suppose just half slack. Just look at the valve, goal is to have it as tight as possible and still have the valve wheel come back and hit the stop.

If you do like sackd said and make sure it still hits the stop that will work, but to avoid idle problems make sure it still rests where it is now. With no weight on the pedal you want the throttle plate to be in the same position, you just want to get rid of the slack in the cable.

I found it made the car better to drive without the slop in the pedal.

Good luck!

Keep in mind if you do this, you will eventually stretch the cable and have to
do this again.

10mm play in the cable is nicey nice....time to tighten mine again.

The first time I checked mine, it was ~25mm play in the middle of the cable

That is true, due to the fact the the butterfly can open faster thus allowing the turbo to spool up faster... Its the best mod I've ever done

EDIT: A nice 4-1 header really helps out with turbo lag too

Damn, and I spent like 3,000 dollars just to get 25 hp and you did it for free.

You should also lash your valves to .0001 This allows them to open faster and stay open longer... good for atleast 5whp

Mine are set at -0007, -0008 and clicks all day long, but the butt dyno says I picked up hp from 3000 to 3100rpm.

Don't go to tight, leave a little slack.

For sure, I don't want to lay my toe on the peddle and jump up to WOT and snap the cable in 2, I'll just adj. the slack to be a little bit tighter than it is now and go from there. Thanks again
