Default d16a6 crank and bearing questions

So I am getting parts together for my d16a6 rebuild and I am now getting to the stage where I need to get bearings for my application. I was originaly intending on using my stock crank and just getting new bearings but I have heard from a few sources that I should just get a crank and bearing kit from napa and such to ensure that they match the crank, is this indeed the way to go? Also what is the stock neck diameter for the d16a6 crank? Thanks

Ryan

You need a helms manual. The crank and the block have numbers stamped on them. The numbers when put together will tell you what size bearings that specific rod and crank journal needs.

It's all in the shop manual. http://www.helminc.com

I know, I have one on the way and thats not realy what I asked. More importantly I need the crank neck diameter for the STOCK d16a6. Was it 22mm or 24mm?

Uh, your question asked about the bearing sizes and now you are asking something different.

So...

Are you talking abou the snout? The snout is the part that the crank pully attaches to. If you have an early 88, it's smaller than the 89-91 A6's. I can't recall the exact size off hand.
