Did ALL '96 Civic EX's come with door lock remotes?
My owner's manual has a page about remote key fobs. Previous owner never gave me one (or two). Am I supposed to have one? Does my car have the remote capability? If so, would a dealer be able to provide a remote key fob?
Thanks.
Thanks.
most ex and lx's 96-98 all had them.. they're integrated into the factory radio..
you can check by removing it and seeing if it has an antenna on the back of it

Keyless Entry for HX and LX
Genuine Honda Civic keyless entry kit. Adds remote locking and unlocking of doors along with panic feature that sounds horn and flashes lights when pressed. Includes 2 remotes,
Factory Radio must still be installed for keyless entry to work.
All of the HX and the LX models have the receiver built into the factory radio. There is nothing to install into vehicle. Simply program the remotes to your Civic by turning the ignition on and off and pressing the lock/unlock buttons.
Honda's Retail $92.00
our Price $66.00

pretty cheap for autotmatic doorlocks. Not that the oem alarm would protect your car, but a cheap alternative to buying an aftermarket alarm. But once again... do not think it will protect your car
Thanks, to all of you.
Good info. The Honda radio is still installed. But it is beginning to fail. Lousy volume control, etc. I'll check the radio. Local dealer said it was an option back then '96, and they will check if mine is working/intalled if I drop by.

That's not true. Schose (spelling) makes a wire harness that allows you to retain keyless entry (and your dome light) and have an aftermarket headunit. It looks like a normal aftermarket install clip but it has one extra clip on it that runs to the stock head unit. I put mine in the glove box. Or you can just leave it in place and install the new headunit down by the cup holder. It looks cleaner in my opinion.
