Intimidated on first assembly/build.. Need your help Honda Tech
Hey guys. we'll i am willing to take the challenge of building my first motor over the winter but could really use your guys (and gals, ) help. Im just kinda confused about the more advanced stuff like checking for clearances, piston/ring proper way to install, prepping a motor for new/used parts install, checking and finding out what bearing sizes to use, etc. also i would like to know what type of work i WONT be able to do and would need to get done at a machine shop. So please help me out. thanks. Ohh and before i forget, how do you engine builders know if your valves is gonna hit the piston tops? do u guess (which i highly doubt) or is there a tool or guide that you go by? In the brand new issue of Honda-Tuning, they have a tool they use for the K20z3 they are building..so im guessing there is a tool i would have to buy if i plan to install some high duration cams. always better to be safe
Im planning to build a gs-R motor with LS Rods and high compression pistons.
So if there is any links or your input, please help me out

well, you gotta be a little more specific on what clearances you're checking and what bearings, etc. if you want better help. i can't help you all that much, but as for checking for piston-to-valve clearance, there's a how-to thread stickied at the top of the all-motor forum on just how to do that. very well written.
good luck with your build, tho.
