Default SOHC Trans

i have a 95 lx and i am planning a SOHC Turbo build, i am trying to figure out what tranny to use.

can i use the same tranny?
rebuild it with different ratios?
What ratios to use when building a SOHC turbo DD?
Ar there any decent lsd's available for sohc tranny's?

and any other tranny info you might have. thanks

you can use the stock LX tranny, however an EX tranny will make your car faster and they are a dime a dozen.

IMHO without knowing your setup unless you are building a crazy drag car or are going to build the engine and make some good power an LSD would be money better spent elsewhere at this point.

There's decent LSD's around but unless you're making an all out drag car I'd stay clear of 'em.

Unnecessary for daily driving.

EX trans will be best, but the LX will hold up fine.

well, the lx trans has bad input bering and needs rebuilt, i want to build the trans right, right now, and have that part of the build out of the way. then i can start on gtting the engine ready for the turbo. i dont know what ratios to run. im shooting for about 200whp with the turbo sohc.

The stock EX ratios are fine...there's absolutely no need to mess with them.

You can even use the ones from an LX, again, it doesn't matter. It'll be noticeably faster with the EX trans, but whatever works for you.

what engine? if it's a z6 200whp on 10 psi can be easily reached on stock internals on a t25 turbo....just mate up an EX trans to it, with some good driving you should be seeing 13 second 1/4's all day long.

You won't really have "freeway" gears unless you get a custom gear set.

I vote for the y8 either way. Sounds like you'll be racing on the streets.

I'd run an EX with 4.7 or 4.9 depending on how much power you make.

Or even the MF gearset with OEM 4.05 FD.

what about the vx tranny wouldnt you hold boost longer due to the longer gear ratio? you can do like 110mph in 3rd gear. its weird.. anyway good luck on that.

SOHC trans suck. Period. Even for boost, I'd want something a lot shorter than a EX/Si.

I agree, for 99% of intents and purposes a fast transmission will be just that, fast.

Though sohc tranny's really aren't anything to write home about until you do custom ratios.

OTS ratios work fine.

MF offers 1.565 3rd and 1.000 5th. You use your stock 3rd as 4th. I'm using the 1.259 right now, but might switch to 1.346 from the ZC once I get my build running this Spring.

Keep in mind that's like 550 bucks just for the final gear.

ex trans, 250
mfactory gears, 650 (3/5 kit)
obx lsd = 360 shipped

1260 for an ultra close ratio LSD trans that can take 400whp all day long. geared short enough for you to ask "did I go too short?"

if that's too much for you, then don't mod your car.

No. 4.05 OEM FD can be found in the D16 LX trans. $100 if you get ripped off on the whole trans.

If you're talking about just running a MF FD. Then yeah it is around that much. Pretty cheap for what you get out of it.
