Default 5th gear pops out?

Every gear stays in but fifth it seems. I'll be going through the gears fine, I'll put it in fifth fine, but if I accelerate with fifth gear in, it will slowly push it out and back into neutral!

Now I just bought this car and it has a DC sports shift plate(blue piece that raises the linkage on the shifter) and DC Sports short shifter. The Shift plate kinda hits the counsel but I do not think this is the problem. Is it possible that the shift plate is not allowing the shifter to put it all the way in fifth? I called the mechanic I bought it from and he says it sounds like a problem with the hub.

I have a warrenty on the car so I'm not terribly concerned. But Is it possible that the shift plate is the issue here? I'm going to take off the plate just in case anyways but I'm just looking for some input.

Those shifter adapters are crap.

Your problem is worn out dog teeth on your syncro, has that gear been grinding, or ever repetitively before?

Pull the warranty card asap, that is an expensive fix otherwise.

Dang! Well it's a barely used H22 tranny with LSD, has 8000miles on it according to the guy (and I thoroughly trust him). No matter what happens he has to fix it due to our warrenty contract, so I'm not terribly concerned, it's just real annoying for now. I'll try taking off the shift plate thing first and if the problem persists, I'm taking it straight to him.

Could it be anything else?

Took off the shift plate and the entire center consel and I learned something, it didn't change anything.

However, I did find out that during highway speeds (65mph+) it does not pop out! Only under like 65-60mph does it get slowly pushed out under accel. Does this help anyone?

Its definitely a problem with the dog teeth, I'm not completely sure on this but it is possible that at high speeds like that there is enough pressure on it from the hub that it stay in.

alright, I had the same problem, but on a very long drive from VA to NC roughly 4 hours. I did it in my 93 prelude. It kept popping out of 5th, and I was going about 80-90 the whole time. After an hour of driving like that, it was in the summer and it got pretty hot outside, and boom, my tranny took a dump. Check to see if there is any fluid in there, after you do some research from what the other members said. I found out that my tranny was slightly cracked and leaked out all of my tranny fluid and that's why it kept popping out of 5th gear. I was pissed, and I had to tow it like 200 miles.

Yeah this whole time I was assuming he had oil in it. lol

That must have sucked, I had a friend that had a similar experience.

it was awful, so much damage, I had to get a whole new tranny. Luckily the clutch over-heated and expanded, but went back down to size once we took it apart. I would imagine that it was a purple color when we took it out, completely stained from the over-heating.

tranny oil ftw.

In the manual trannies is there a dipstick for the tranny? Also, why would all the other gears be more than perfect with no fluid? I agree with the dog teeth being fucocked or something...warrenty time...
