To much play...
I also after stripping my car noticed that when I put back the original shifter that there is a lot of play even when it is in gear, whats the problem? Can it be fixed/how. Thanks.

On my girlfriends '89 Turbo Supra, the shifter felt "spongy". Not at all crisp like my Integra.
So I replaced the shifter bushing and it sharpened up.

what do you mean too much play...check the shift linkage? Maybe loose
