funny gsr idle
any suggestions? also i seemed to have lost the small black "top" that sits on the purge valve for my crx ( the on thats connected to the map sensor) is this important? could this be the cause of the wierd idle?
sounds like the fast idle thermo valve, mine has gone bab 3 times. i believe it starts happening just when cold. then over time it will idle erradicly all the time
basicaly the FITV raises your idle when the coolant is cold, but the valve (which is threaded) backs itself out over time. and the valve cant shut anymore. causing the bouncing idle.
do a quick (archived) search for the fast idle or FITV, i think you will find alot on this.
theres a cover on the back of the FITV with 2 philips screws. take that off and you will see the the white plunger, which is probly set to the back of the FITV. now screw it in by depressing the plunger (which is spring loaded) and turing it with a flathead screwdriver (in the groove running through the plunger) to the right i believe, again you must depress the plunger to be able to screw it in far enough.
screw it in most or all the way.
I actualy made a plastic insert to put inside the FITV to prevent this plunger from backing out. but i havent tested it yet, i imagine that as long as it has enough holes in it and lets enough coolant through it will be fine.
i could post pics if anybodys interested.
also did you do anything to the cooling system, it could be air in the coolant.

sorry i think may have jumped to conclusions on the FITV, you might not even have one if your motor is obd2.
also looking in my manual a quick check to see if it is the IAC, is to " with the engine running and the accelerator pedal released, disconnect the 2p connector from the IAC valve.
is there a reduction in engine rpm..........yes intermittent failure, system is ok, check poor connections or loose wires.
.................................................. .........no, substitute a known-good IAC valve and retest "
hope i didnt confuse you
