Default 1988' CRX HF runnin Hot

Stock engine 175,000 miles.

Just this morning I noticed my CRX's temperature guage going crazy. It will go from normal temperature slowly up to almost the top range (red area on the guage), then hold there for a bit and out of nowhere, go back to a bit higher than normal for about 1-2 minutes before the temperature rises again.

Any recommendations.

Thanks in advance.

Replace your thermostat. It's a good time to change the coolant and (possibly) flush the system. Sometimes an otherwise good thermostat will fail to work because of debris in the system.

Also, it looked like both fans are running. I bought a thermostat on the way home today, just wanted to make sure that it is what I think it is and/or get suggestions on what else to check out.

In the past, I've had thermostats fail open (on the Type R and on the Civic Si I owned before that). Then the car just runs cool

Looks like this was the issue. Replaced the thermostat and coolant tonight. Took her for a 20 minute drive and all is well....WOOT!

This car kicks *** as a daily driver. I paid $800 for the thing a year ago, and put 14,000 miles on it since then. It has a total of 175,000 miles and doesn't burn a drop of oil. So what if its rusty. Its cheap to drive and just needs a fix every now and then.
