Default MA Audio Amp.....Not Enough Juice!!!

Hey guys I am new on this so sorry if I confuse you.

I bought a MA Audio Amp (HK4000D) to install on my Integra. I have a 860CCA battery and a 6 farad capacitor. But is still not enough juice for the amp. After I turn the volume to 1/4 the amp dies. It does not go to protective mode.

I am powering two kickers SL7 12". How much power does the amp needs? Do I need a bigger battery & capacitor?

I am using number 0 gauge cable for power and ground for the amp and the capacitor. I also aded two ground cables on the battery to the chassy. Thanks for your help. Any comments welcome.

Have you wired 6 in parallel, I don't know of too many companies who make a 6 farad cap. What is the amp rating on your fuse for the power wire? Maybe your alternator or voltage regulator just sucks, what is the output voltage do you have a DVM on your cap/s?

what the hell does this mean, 2AWG or 2 ground wires? RFI!

I'm betting you're running this huge amp on a stock alternator??

Well ******* DUH...

If your battery is putting out a true 14.4 volts, and you're running that amp at 2 ohms, the MA website says that it'll produce 3,600 watts.

That equates to a current draw of 250 Amps. Your stock alternator delivers ~75 Amps. Now, with all of the other electronics in the car drawing off of the alternator, that leaves ~50-60 Amps to power your HK4000D.

Not gonna work. Get a high output alternator....

Where can I find one?

So doesn't matter how many batteries or capacitor I use it's not going to work. Because I am having a hard time finding alternator that deliver more amps.

A few questions...

Which L7s, [DVC 2 or 4 ohm]"

How are they wired, parallel, series or a combination of both?

What kind of fuse are you using, [fuse on main power cable]?

Last question, you have two 750W continuous subs for a total of 1500W continuous, why are you using a 1x4000W amp, or are the subs wired for a 4 ohm load, [1800W RMS]? 94

Here is mywork with that amp

To run this amp and keep it happy its going to need a bigger alternator. And it does not like to b dropped below 13 volts. On the first setup on the power issue. I used a 360 amp alternator and the ma audio 10 fared cap bank. I switched up to a dual battery set up and a dual alternator setup. Two 360 amp alternator. One powers just the 4000d and it has its own battey. The other one powers the 800 watts 4 channel andthe car. If you keep that amp happy it will rms 4380 watts and run very cool. Not hot to touch. I hit 153.6 db with it not even tuned right. Your also going to have to make sure that monster is grounded right. Not talking with a screw. But a well prepped surface and a nut and bolt. Why did you go with that big of a amp?

I got a good deal on it and I wanted to use only one amp for the two kickers for space purposes.

Another question:
Where can I find a high output alternator? So far the bigest I could find is a 170amp from "load boss alternators"?

Could it be enough if I use a 170 amp alternator and a 25 farad capacitor?

You haven't answered all my questions.

Ideally you will have DVC 4 ohm subs, and you would wire the VCs of each sub in series, [8 ohms] and then wire the subs together in parallel to bring it back down to 4 ohms, the amp makes 1500W RMS into 4 ohms, perfect for the two S12L7s, however you will need around 200A just to power the amp, I would be looking for a 250A alternator.
You do not need more then a 3 farad cap, [1 farad for every 500W] also keep in mind a cap is also a load on the alt., the bigger the cap, the bigger the load. 94

There will be differing opinions on the final solution. You definately need more power.

I recommend the following:

Get rid of the caps until you upgrade the alternator. I believe they hurt more than help when you cannot produce enough current to keep up with draw for long periods of time. The arguments pro and con should be in the archives.

The 170 amp alternator should be fine. MA claims a 90% efficiency rating for that amp. At 1500 watts output would mean 139 amps at 12 volts and 119 at 14 volts needed by the amp. If you are planning on competing, then go for the 250 amp alternator.

I personally have a US Amps md3d wired at 1 ohm (2kwatts) in my g35 on the stock 110 amp alternator. I have only managed to get it to cut out on songs with very strong bass lines after about 10 minutes. It will shut down for a couple of seconds and turn back on. If you have not guessed, I run no caps.
