Default Brought my 07 in for warranty work

This morning I brought my 2007 GPW (18960K miles) in for warranty work.

Problems:
** CEL light on for primary O2 sensor.
** Yesterday, transmission tunnel got so hot, I could barely sit in the car while driving. Keys sitting near it couldn't even be touched after a while. Subsequent loss of power felt in all gears.
** Tighten E-brake because it pretty much doesn't hold the car at all.

Factoids:
** Oil changes every ~3000 miles before 12K miles, then switched to Mobile 1, then changed every ~7500 miles until my change yesterday.
** No modifications except unrelated ones such as Espelir springs, Cusco STB, and OEM lip.
** CEL light has been on for a while, but I never had a chance to bring it in. I checked it immediately with a scanner and it showed a primary O2 issue so I wasn't too worried.
** Transmission tunnel did not get hot today driving home from my gf's house (50+ miles) and going to the dealer, which I am worried for since they may not detect the problem.
** I asked them for a pre-inspection signoff sheet to note that there was no damage on the car when I brought it in, save for a couple of chips which I pointed out. (Everyone should do this if the dealer doesn't offer it)

DCH Academy Honda in Sayreville, New Jersey was gracious enough to accept my car even though I did not purchase it from them. I did, however purchase several other cars from there. I dropped off the car this morning and will keep you updated on what the problem(s) are. In the meantime, do any of you have any comments on what it could be?

O2 sensor will be covered if theres internal failure. if you ran over a debri and it cut the wires of the O2 sensor, youll be responsible for it. for the trans tunnel to reach abnormal temperature, it will be up to the tech to duplicate the problem. if they dont see anything wrong with it, youll just have to patiently wait until the problem exist frequently. it doesnt matter where the car was purchase, the manufacture warranty goes with the car. good luck

the trans tunnel is where the exhaust is. If your car was running too rich because of a faulty O2 sensor, the cat will get very hot.

Bad idea to keep driving on it like that.

Or maybe something caused the O2 sensor to go bad.

What came first, the chicken or the egg lol. Did the O2 sensor go bad because the car was running too rich or did the car run too rich because the O2 sensor went bad?

Hopefully your dealer will cover all of it and get it back to you soon.

UPDATE: Academy Honda just called....

They will replace the O2 sensor under warranty, and it will arrive on Friday. That's okay, they can keep the car until they are ready. I spoke to the tech and he said that the heater circuit was not completing correctly at times. For those of you who don't know, it is the circuit that heats up the sensor to operating temps.

They could not find anything that caused the transmission tunnel to heat up that much. They said it COULD have been the cat, but that would have thrown another code, but he didn't see any. There was no damage to anything under there (heat shields, cat, transmission, etc). I mentioned a possible TSB/recall for the O2 issue, as I heard some people here and Honda-tech mention it. He said he was not aware of it, and he checked Honda's list for the S2000.

He said that the fluid should be fine because Honda recommends changing it at 30K miles.

The tech said that the E-brake was already at spec (9-13 clicks). I mentioned that it only SOMETIMES is in spec, but sometimes will pull back all the way to the stop. He mentioned that it may not be covered under the warranty, so I said not to worry about that one for now. I can always mess with that myself.

All me!

Used to routinely drive 100+ miles a day to and from my gf's house. Now I toned it down to doing it about 2-3 times a week instead. I realized that I'd be hovering ~250K miles by the time I paid it off. Haha.

In response to your heat situation:

Since your car is lowered when you drive it alot or fast and then remain still, the heat can not readily escape out from under the car as well as a stock height car.

The asphalt and/or cement is reflecting the heat right back up into your car so your car is absorbing more of it.

You have to keep driving to let the air pass under it and remove heat.

I will go a step further and say the front lip is also probably not allowing some more air from passing under your car while in motion to cool it down.

Possible, however I had the lip and it was lowered for a significant amount of time. It only happened that one day, on the highway, going 70mph+. Weird.

Yeah, I wasn't too happy. Scary thing was it once flew down my gf's driveway (literally sloped about 40 degrees). It somehow stopped in the street crooked with absolutely no damage. There are boulders, trees, and a cliff all around it.

Researching on s2ki.com, it shows that the E-brake seems to be an issue and it doesn't always work. I always leave it in gear now.

Update again

Picked up the car after work today. No CEL anymore, and car drove nicely all the way home except for some bogging (which was probably just me thinking too much).

Unfortunately......

There was a significant scratch on the front lip. Luckily I had the service consultant make an ad hoc pre-inspection form for me, which he filled out on the work order. I called him right up and he said unfortunately that he had no power to do anything now, that I would have to speak with the service manager tomorrow. Guess I'm going to be making an uncomfortable call tomorrow. :thumbdn:

I do know two people that work in the service department personally and I emailed them for advice to see if they could help me out. Hopefully I can get this resolved.

The service consultant (Matt) was VERY polite to me through all of this. He knew I was very particular about my car and had only one person work on it, plus I only saw about 0.4 miles on it. He even had it parked diagonally in the back after it was done, before I picked it up.

However, something happened somewhere. Wish me luck, guys.

hmmm..i always park all my cars in gear anyway...but that scares me when working on the car (i have a sloped driveway...can't work on the car in the road)

i do chock the wheels..but i would also like to know that the chock isn't the only thing holding the car from rolling backwards

matt is a nice guy. rick also and tara.

do you kno what tech was working on the car? im going to assume it was mo the oldest tech in the shop. he can be grumpy at times but imo hes the guy you want to work on your car he is very through.

sucks i dont work there no more.
you ever take your car there for oil changes? pretty much all the s2000s there came in for oil changes after 12pm were serviced by me when i worked there i always took extra care of them.

tony the manager there can sometimes be an ******* but you are firm about it he might just fix it. because they do value having happy customers. but if they refer you to the body shop called aberdeen autobody or something like that the owner is named steven i would try and advoid going to them. thats where they usually send cars to get fixed. its all chinese people and their attention to detail is

if the scratch was on the front of the lip or the sides it might have been from the lift arms. the shop is very narrrow it can be hard to get the car on the the lifts because of that.

you kno marty right hes a tech there too? i remember him showing me the revtech site and i saw yor old bike there and your pic i think.

Yes, Matt was very nice. I don't think I met Rick and Tara, but if Tara is the girl who greets you when you come into the service area, then she is very nice. I also remember back in the day, there was a girl Felicia Cairns. She went to elementary school with me! Hah, I think she stopped working there a long time ago.

Unfortunately I don't know who worked on it, but I did speak with him over the phone. He sounded young and explained everything that he did very thoroughly.

I didn't you know worked there before. I never took my new car there for oil changes because 1) I bought it at VIP Honda and 2) I just take it to the "Oil Well" on Route 516.

I did once bring in my Silverstone 2001 there for two oil changes, but the car got stolen pretty quickly afterwards.

I spoke to Joe. The receptionist girl (Tara, maybe?) said that Tony wasn't in. However, Joe did some out with a skinnier white guy who I guess you can say is somewhat blunt and cocky. I started talking to that guy about it and he said to me somewhat rude, "Oh, so you want us to pay for this?" Err, no kidding.

Anyway, they went to look for the original paperwork detailing the damage, and I don't know if they found it or not. But Joe came to get me in the waiting room and said they would repair it for a one time good faith deal. Fine by me.

I did mention that the entire lip only cost me ~$350, but they said they wouldn't replace it, they would repair it. Fine by me, as long as the end result is a non-scratched lip. I don't know where they are taking it, but I will make sure to inspect the work after it is complete.

It was on the front lower, right side of the lip (the area where it flares up a little).

Yep, I know Marty and Marby who work there. They are brothers of Marc who was the OG ringleader of Revtech Racing. Haha, that was so long ago.

I'm dropping it off on Tuesday and I will make sure to keep everyone updated on what was supposed to be a simple warranty claim.

yeah mine did that on my gfs driveway like 6 times already... i never put it in gear just because thats how i taught myself... good thing it only hangs out of the driveway halfway... if i click it all the way up i have no problems...

i bought mine from VIP as well... they gave me a pretty good price but never kept there word after i drove if off the lot... they said that they would give me new floormats, give me free replacement locking lug nuts, and $100 because they put the check through before I transfered my funds into my checking account... My friend gave me a set of floor mats, i bought the locks fro ma guy on s2ki, and never got my check... i called about 20-30 times and finally gave up... i just said expletive you last time i called...
