No it wont, for this to work you NEED the key and you need it in position 1, if a theif has the key he wont bother pulling out the tumbler, that aside it should pull right out when its in the proper location, unless its bent or has been forced. however if your ignition has a electrical problem, changing the tumbler alone wont fix it, you need to change the entire thing.

People might be afraid to reply because they don't have a complete picture of why you are removing the ignition switch. If you don't mind giving people a little more information, that might help.
You might also want to pop into the Audio/Security/Electronics forum, since they seem to have a wealth of knowledge about everything electric.

the problem im have is that when i start the car and let it return to the on position it shuts off. when the key is in the ignition it doesnt stay still while its in position. you can turn it from position 1 and 2 freely. the only way to drive it is to start the car and not let it fall to the on position, so i have to hold it still so the car stays on. could i remove the ignition switch and push from the back of the tumbler to try and get it out? any help is appreciated im tired of holding the key in place while driving its pretty tricky
You need to replace the electrical part of the ignition switch:
It's the "rotary switch" that is attached to the buttom of the ignition switch itself. We do them all the time in our shop...
Most dealers wil know it if you call it that "electrical part of the ignition switch" God Speed on fixing it...

ALso, they are not that costly, some on-line places sell them for under 16 bucks.
