Default Broken Tranny Housing Bolt, Helicoil Application?

I had a guy pull a d16a6 out of a parts car for me about 40 miles form my house.

He thought I needed the rear crossmember so he pulled the engine with that still attatched. (i know, i know )

Well low and behold, two of the bolts broke off in the tranny housing. He claims it may have been that way before, reguardless......

Does anyone know the heilcoil application for this? Suggestions of fixing this?

That tranny shifted so smooth I need to save it. I drove it to that yard 2 weeks ago, so I know its minty.

Its the large bolts that hold the mount to the housing.

If bolts broke off inside the housing, why do you need to helicoil it?

Helicoil is for stripped threading....which you didn't necessarily say you had.

Why can't you just remove the bolts and be on your way?

If your holes are actually stripped...you have the same problem I had.

thank you so much john.

i think i can just pull the bottom halves of the bolts.

you're right, theres no reason for the threading to be messed up, im ahead of myself.

can i get one of those bolt-out things at sears? perhpas a place online sells them?

thanks again.

man you can get those anywhere...even the most lowly auto parts places sell them. It's like $3 for a cheap set.

Second the motion, buy a good set. A broken off easy-out, even if it's cheap, is 100x the problem. Spend a few dollars more, save a LOT of hassle. Sears carry s them, but make sure you buy the Craftsman brand, not the Sears brand, big difference.

I've never broken a cheap easy out. But these horror stories will persuade me to go buy a good set!
