Default Whats a good Oem Bottom end combination for 12.1 in a LS/Vtec???

B18A block/crank
JDM B16 head

im wondering what combination of pistons, headgasket, block decking, head machining, and valves, etc, would be the best/most reliable way to make 12.1 compression with OEM parts.

p73 or p30 pistons. p30's will put you closer I believe.

P30's will do it.

P30's with a bit of head milling and a 2-layer gasket will get you there. What is your reasoning for wanting 12:1? P30's will yield around 11.5-11.7:1...nothing wrong with that. Actually, that's just about perfect for a daily driver.

im trying to go as hi as i can for a daily driver and that is about it. but my motor would be more manigable with a little less like 11.5-11.7:1. so that with stock 3-layer and no head milling??

Don't ever use used pistons. Could you get away with it? Maybe. But why risk it? If there is one scratch or nick in those pistons, you could scratch your cylinder walls resulting in burning oil.

it's not necessary to shotpeen them. But yes, it's safe. The shop you are having do the work should inspect the rods for out of roundness on the big ends.

If you're going to use the P30 pistons...any stage 2 cam will work good....or comparable: Rocket M22x, Buddy Club spec 4, etc.
