Default axle stuck into intermediate

Has anyone had the problem of the axle being stuck into intermediate. I am having a bitch of a time just removing the drivers side axle. Everything is disconnected and ready for my new axle xcept this. I have been wailing on it with a big hammer and using a prybar. I do lift weights so it is not a strength issue. I would not have posted this if this did not happen before. When I took this engine out of my other car both I and a friend who is quite large could not pop it, we ended up removing the intermediate with the axle to do the swap. When it was out of the car it could not be budged (must be a sword in stone thing). I am hoping not to be forced into getting an intermediate also..
I am just at a loss..any suggestions. Thanks.

Weak, seriously, just whack the CV housing with a BFH and then turn the axle, whack it some more, etc.

It also helps if someone else stands on the intermediate shaft while you're hitting on the axle housing.

It's just a little clip ring holding it in.

I dont have acces to a sledge nor a lift to get it high enough. So madmax you say whackit on the sides will help compress the clip better. The physics of this say it should be easy as can be especially with a big pry bar. I have been trying to whack it out directly with a big rubber mallet it seems to move but not enough where I can get the tip of a pry inbetween the end and intermed. Thanks so far for not ripping too hard..

get a vise on a workbench. clamp down the intermediate shaft with the axle stuck in it facing down. now you will have a complete downward force when you hit it.this will help alot. i ama auto tech so i just use my air hammer, but using a normal hammer will do the trick. the key is to set it up so that you can use all of ur force and gravity to help you. also being verticle will help center the spring clip and help u remove it. hope this helps.

I just whack it with a heavy rubber mallet.

you need a sledge hammer my friend, get one for like 8 bucks at your nearest discount store.

using a normal hammer on stuff like that, loosening tie rods, bitch pins, just doesn't work, its amazing how much more impact you get from a sledge and a light strike than a normal hammer and a huge hit.

i had difficulties on that same axle, what i did was put a long extension on the axle, and tapped it out with a sledge and it popped right out..goodluck
