v-tec engagement help???!???!!
quick question.. ive got a '93 integra gsr.. went out this morning for a quick drive, after driving for maybe a minute decide to hammer on it.. (temp gauge was still cold) i know bad thing to do, but i just for sum reason had to.. anyways.. ran past 6k rpm, and no vtec..i was like what the hell....so i stop check my oil its still full.... so i come on here and start reading.. and saw somthing about your car has to be warmed to a certain temp before v-tec will engage... just hoping that someone can clarify this to put my mind to rest that i dont have a bigger problem.. thanks a lot....
aww damnsn.. i dunno why that came up as a pole..i guess i must have accidently clicked sumthin... disregard the pole please..

The temperature of the engine, oil temp/pressure, throttle position, and gear. These are all variables if and when VTEC comes on. The engine has to be warm, oil has to be warm and pressurized, throttle position has to be at least 1/2 position. The gear that you're in changes the engagement point as well, I think. I don't know much about this, so hope that helps.
Taking the car out for a spin.. 5 Dollars
Flexing on a punk with a mustang and his bitch in the passenger seat.. .50 Dollars
Reving up to 6k when engine is cold resulting in VTEC not kicking in.. PRICELESS!

dude..i said i knew it wasent a good idea.. i dunno why i did it.. but anyways.. thanks for all the help guys.. that was pretty much what i figured.... puts my mind at ease..
thanks..
thanks..
your car didn't go into VTEC because the engine was not at operating temp.. for VTEC to engage.. you must satisfy the following constraints: have the engine/coolant at normal operating temperature, adequate oil/oil pressure, throttle position/RPM, no Check engine lights, your motor was cold which is why it didn't engage.. next time don't get on your motor until its at operating temp.. and then see if VTEC works.. good luck
its a safeguard to prevent you from damaging the motor.. kind of like how some BMW's have red lights on the tach/number increments that light up RED along the tach numbers when the motor is still cold.. indicating a lower RPM redline until the engine is warm/at operating temp

the vtec will not engage until the engine is at normal opperating temp.
edit: sorry for bringing this back to the top, didn't read it all the way to see the answer was already given!
