Darton sleeved paranoia
Ok, so I have a b16a2 bottomend that I had sleeved 4-5 years ago with the 81mm Darton closed deck iron sleeves. The motor was not line bored at that time for some reason or another and the last main cap near the rear main pretty much ate the bearing. All the other bearings were in perfect shape when I pulled the mains and the rod bearings were all in great shape. I have no idea who installed the sleeves and did all the work because it was taken care of through a local shop. Last year I took the bottomend to a very reputable local machine shop and had the block line bored, decked, and bored out to 83mm. Also, I picked up a new b16a2 crank. Now, my question is this: are there any inherent problems with closed deck design? I don't know why I am so paranoid with this motor but I for some reason dont want to use the bottomend. Everything was put into spec but it is jsut the type of sleeve that bugs me and the way the sleeves are seated in the block. Any pros and cons? let me know.
If the block has been running for 4 years then i think youll be ok closed deck. I dont remember exactly but i think closed decks have cooling issues. Other then that its good.
Also its rare that honda motors need an align hone, unless of course the mains were scared then you need oversized bearings.

AH damn I didnt clear that up. IT was running for a few months and then I pulled the motor because the damned thing sounded like a TDI. It has since been redecked, line bored and honed out.
