How much do you guys charge to put a block together? measuring main and rod bearings, measuring piston rings and then installing everything together and close up the block. This is for a b18 motor. just wanna know the price range because i might be building my friend's block and im not sure what to charge him

 

Shops will can charge up to 800 for labor for a shortblock. This includes cleaning with hottank, and CNC machining. If it's for a friend I won't expect to make too much profit. Just think about the amount of time it will take you and apply that to an agreeable hourly rate.

 

cut him a deal if he is a friend, just make up for it on someone elses block

 

My local machine shop charges $200 to assemble a short block

 

$200 to measure all the main and rod bearings and to assemble the whole thing together?

 

$60-80 for customers and half that for friends is what I usually go by.
