Default Throttle body sticking (closed) Help!

Hey there fellow accord enthusiasts!

I have a 2001 Accord coupe (4cyl) and for a while i've been having a problem with my throttle body. I think it started when i did the TB coolant bypass a long time ago. Since then, i've replaced everything as it should but i still keep getting the problem. Expecially when it's cold (winter time)

What happens is, when i am about to press the gaz pedal, i need to tap it (hit it) kinda hard because it wont move at all. This happens almost only when i start the car and the first one or two times i press the gaz pedal after. I tought of a kinked throttle cable, but i replaced it and no luck. I've taken apart my TB and cleaned it really good, still the same problem.

Now my TB assembly is in pieces waiting to be reinstalled. The throttle cable assembly and the cruise control cable assy. (on the throttle body) are taken off. Only thing left is the shaft for the butterfly opening and the spring that's with it (i cannot remove it) Even then, all lubed up with some JigaLoo, if i leave it closed for a while, it will be hard to open it the first time....(sticky effect)

I've taken off the butterfly plate and put it back letting it sit as pefectly as possible before tightening the screws back, but i always get the same result.. I dont want to replace it (for now) cuz i'm broke as ****.

Would applying some Lithium grease (in solid -a stick- form) around the butterfly plate would cause problems (like particules of **** getting stuck in it with time)?

I also tought of slightly sanding the butterfly plate to take like .01mm of it but i dont have any precision tools for that, and it could make things worst (idle problems for example) if air goes around the plate...

Anyone ever experienced that problem?

Thanks for any help!

This happened when I first got my accord. All you have to do is disconnect your intake hose from your throttle body and spray throttle body cleaner in there. Then it doesn't stick when you first gas the car

If this only happens during below freezing temps there isn't much that will help. Try re-connecting your FITV (undo your throttle coolant bypass?????). The coolant running through the FITV is what helps keep your throttle plate and throttle body walls from glazing over with ice during those cold days. Ice build up is probably what is causing your throttle plate to stick closed. If you need the extra (.05) hp that the throttle coolant bypass gives you you could try spraying a little bit of liquid graphite on your throttle plate during the cold days or when you find your throttle plate freezing shut.

Is there a throttle stop screw? Try adjusting that a little to keep it from binding in closed position.

as for the stop screw, it's specified in my honda manual (factory) not to play with it.. (DO NOT ADJUST lol) so i'd rather not.

Yeah I wouldn't adjust the stop screw just yet.

Do you have any pics that you can post of your Throttle Body torn down? I'm just wondering if there maybe a ridge on the inner wall of the TB that the butterfly may be catching on when the Aluminum is cold.

Before you put it back on the car check to see if it sticks. Turn the throttle butterfly by had and look and feel for a stiff spot in the mechanism. Hands On and close eyes and ears are always the best tools to find something that is getting wedged or sticking.

I'll try posting pics later on

I removed the butterfly plate and the mechanism moves perfectly. It seems that the plate sticks to the walls of the TB when it's about to open, but only if it's been sitting there for a while.

I'll make sure i dont feel any edge on the walls, and on the plate. I'll try sanding down the edges of the plate and maybe greasing it (with solid lithium grease) and see if it helps..

thanks all for your support (lol)
