Default Compression/Pistons

hey, this may sound like a retarded question, and i really should know this, but i wasnt sure so here it goes..

i need higher compression in my B18a, now, i know that i need high-compression pistons, but what will actually apply this higher compression.. are the pistons all i need? i already have ductile sleeves and JG connecting rods.... and also, what pistons would you guys reccomend for an 11.0:1 compression ratio? eagle? JG? JE? thanks

I like Arias. Pistons are just one of the many ways.

why stop at 11:1...

you can probably get away with 12.5:1CR if you have 94+ octane avalible and the right tunning.......

JE, Weisco, SRP, Probe Racing.......all good pistons

the highest octane that i have access to is 91... non-vtec, do you know any good online stores that would sell these for a decent price? also, do you know what piston bore size i would need for my 90-91 B18a without having to bore out the cylinders? i want to install them myself without any machine work... tanks

http://www.importbuilders.com sells JE, Probe and Weisco pistons for a decent price.......i recommend doing buisness with Jeff. he's a good guy to deal with.

you will need a 81mm piston for that engine.........but if you have alot of miles on it you might want to consider getting the engine bored and honed and putting oversized pistons in it.

11:1CR will hardly affect the results. it may change them a little but not enough to cause a problem.

if your "barley" passing right now then you have other problems. possibly your cat-converter is getting old and tired.......or your o2 sensor is not functioning correctly.....

good luck.

p.s. if you was a cheaper alternative than buying forged pistons you can buy OEM honda pistons from a B16. they will fit with no problems. they cost much less than forged aftermarket pistons and they will give you about 10.8:1CR. with a little head milling or thinner headgasket you can bring it up to 11:1 with no problem.

yea i might do that then... i'll jus probly go with the B16 pistons.... but what about the GSR's? are those 81 mm? anyways, the reason why i barely passed smog is because my engine is heavily modified, the problem is, my current pisons are only 9.0:1 (turbo pistons)... here's what's done to my engine...

B18a CRX, blueprinted and balanced, ported and polished head, titanium valve springs, five-angle valve job, forged rods, balanced crankshaft, ductile sleeved, MSD ignition, JG pistons, JG throttle body, JG cams, JG flywheel, JG stg 4 clutch, oil pump, seals, Apexi exaust, Iceman intake

if your planning on turbo then your better off with the lower compression.....the higher the compression ratio the more chance your going to get dentonation and it will be a real pain in the *** to tune.

what do you plan to use that engine for? turbo or N/A?

what pistons do you have in there now?

my engine's compression is already set for turbo, it was on the cover of Import Tuner about 3 years ago, and had a turbo when it was in that magazine.. it was pushing 280+ horses to the wheels... the pistons are JG 9.0:1--perfect for turbo.. but now i want the car to be n/a... so i want pistons that wont **** with my smog results.... if i throw 11.0:1 pistons in there, how much horses do you think i'd gain to the wheels? i know it would be hard to say, but rough estimate... thanks dood

since you already have aftermarket forged rods you will have a hard time fitting stock B16 pistons onto those rods...the wrist pins are diffrent sizes.

you better off buying a set of forged aluminum pistons and new rings.......if you on a tight budget the contact jeff at import builders and ask about his probe racing pistons. they are super light and stong for alot less than JE or Weisco. but 6-7 months ago i was about to purchase them but they were on a mad back order......they might be avalible now but you will have to ask to find out for sure......

as for how much power you can gain? well going from 9:1 to 11:1 you should see a 10-15% increase of power and torque.......maybe more? i still say you could probably get away with 11.5:1 or more......the more the better...........N/A loves high compression......

http://www.c-speedracing.com/howto/c.../compcalc.html

go there and play with the numbers and pistons...

if i were you and didnt mind using stock rod's id pick p30 pistons with beam polished shot peened LS rods

but stock LS rods are weak... with my high compression, the rods wont last long with the way i drive... or wait, you said shot peened... but im not on a tight budget... im about to win a $2 million lawsuit... so i want to keep this rex for another year or so... then its time for a skyline ....thx for the help though guys..

if ur car has what u claim it to have and ur not on a budget u may as well yank the motor, bore it to 81.5 or 82mm since its sleeved, rehone it and buy some wiseco, JE, probe, arias pistons.
