$5000 to spend on engine em2
hi there,
i currently have a honda civic em2. iv save $5000 to spend on the engine. i was planning a k20 engine transplant but im only 18 and the insurance will double. the suspention and brakes will be sorted in the next month so im planning the engine build.
i live in the uk so tuning parts for my car are hard to come by so everything will be imported from the u.s. so with the engine transplant out of the question the only other way to go is forced induction. so if you had $5000 to spend on a turbo engine build what would be on your list?
the $5000 does not include labour as i know a local jap tuner who will be fitting everything on his days off.
thanx alot

I would suggest a swap or a RSX-S for better reliability, but if you have your heart set on turbo, the best kit out for 7th gen is Dezod.com, don't be fooled, going custom can get expensive also.
An alterative to the Dezod kit:
HKS Manifold (internal WG) w/ t25 turbo
custom downpipe/charge pipes
Dezod intercooler
Used BOV, Boost Controller, Wideband
AEM FIC Piggyback w/ RSX-S or SRT-4 Injectors and a clutch kit
Others on the forum can help with your d17 build, if your planning on putting up over 200whp on a daily basis and expect longevity I would assume:
ARP Head Studs and Rod Bolts
Dezod Forged Pistons 8.8:1
Crower Forged Rods

yeah just don't tell them. I tried to get my subs head unit and other stuff on my insurance they want my **** my subs bolted down all that. With 5 grand you could get a k24 or a k20a3 but i don't think you would be able to get a k20a2 swap for 5grand. I was looking at just 4 grand in parts off a recked RSX-S.

You do know that insurance is different in the UK, correct?

If you did a swap and wanted your money back if there is a wreck, I'm sure you could get an appraisal done, and your payments would be based on the appraisal. If I did a k20a, I'd want my money back if I got in a smash up, thats alot of money to loose.

Which shows that you know nothing about UK insurance. If he were to drop a K20 in from a UK CTR, his insurance would go up to at least that of the CTR, if not more.
And if he were to do the swap and not inform the insurance company, then have an accident, the company wouldn't pay out because he hadn't declared it. Then he may also end up getting prosecuted for driving illegally.
Bingo.

Have a read through the forum mate, the answers to what you want to know are already here.
But try http://www.dezod.com for turbo stuff and search here for turbo related threads. There are a few people here who have them, search for "boilermaker1"'s thread about it, his is a damn fine set up.
