Default H22 into del sol questions...

I've never swapped anything before, so bear with me here.

I just picked up an H22A with tranny w/ LSD and I'm swapping it into my 93 del sol... and I had a couple questions.

Since I'm going from cable to hydro, will I need to get any more parts for that like new pedals, slave cylinder, master cylinder....? or will it swap right in ? One of my friends said I will probably need to buy parts to convert it from cable to a hydro tranny...

Also, with the shift linkage, what do I need? I saw in the swap thread that you have to cut to make the shifter fit, but it still kinda left me confused. One of my friends said to use the prelude shift linkage, and another said I'll need accord shift linkage. I need to get it soon, so I don't want to rush out and buy the wrong one. Also, can I use my existing shifter or do I need a new one?

I know about the axels... I picked up the hasport ones, so I think those questions are all I have left before I start the swap.

Sorry if I sound like a retard, I'm a girl and really don't know what the hell I'm doing yet, but I'm excited to do this. PLEASE help me out guys!!!! Thanks!

as far as i know you are going to need parts to convert it from cable to hydro... don't quote me on it though... as far as your shift linkage goes, your friends told you two different shift linkage from different models because the H22A came from the factory in both those cars. it debuted in 1993 in the prelude vtec, and it was also in 1994-1997 accord sir's and 1998-2002 accord euro-r in japan. you might not need to get a new shifter, but i recommend the skunk2 short shifter.

i know that wasn't really that much help, but... bump for this girl.

now that i think about it, your 1993 del sol should already have a hydraulic clutch.

Holy ****.

H22's are cable, he'll be switching FROM hydro, TO cable. He'll need to hack his firewall up or drill large holes to run the shifter cables.

b-series axles are NOT compatible with h-series transmissions. Why would you suggest this? And his del sol harness will work fine, he just needs to add a few sensors.

OP

h22's do NOT have shift linkages, they have shifter cables.

I agree with SOME of this.

You do have a hydro clutch on your car. I'm not sure if the H22 and D15 slave cylinders are interchangeable (I think they are) then it's just bolt the slave cylinder onto the new trans, if not then it's just swap the slave cylinder for the one on the H22 and connect the line.

As for the shifter linkage, you do NOT need a custom linkage and it'd be completely stupid to buy one. If you're not going to do a H2D or H2B where you'd keep the shifter linkage you can use the stock H22 linkage as well. You just have to cut out a hole in front of the shifter to run the cables for the shifter linkage.

You can use accord/teg axles but I wouldn't do that, I'd just buy gator or hasport axles.

For the mounts, use the hasport H22 to EG mounts.

You don't need to change the wiring harness at all. You can go buy a GSR harness b/c it'll have the IAB and VTEC wires in it, but they're not in the cabin so you'd have to replace the dash harness as well. You're better off just wiring up VTEC and the IAB separately - then just ziptie them to the existing harness. Not only is it free (opposed to buying a new harness) but it's a ****-ton less work than pulling the entire dash out to replace the dash harness 'n such.

The clutch is hydro. The shifting is done via cables. We must've had some confusion. And I think on my part.

I got that from this h22 swap info thread.

we were talking about clutch lines, there is no cable tranny for a h22 unless its a converson of some sort

I see the confusion I made. I thought you were talking about the linkage. Not the clutch.

Holy ****…
There's so much bad info in this thread.

The swap is super easy.
Once you get the old motor out, here are the first things you should do…
Cut off the last inch of the passenger side motor mount. You will have to drill a new hole on the mount later and use a nut on the back side.
Go inside the car. Under the dash, still on the tunnel, you will find a small black box with yellow wires leading to it. This is the SRS computer. There should be about an ich or two clearance on the driver's side between the SRS computer and the heater core. This is where you want to drill the hole(s) for the cable shifter. If the car was an auto, you can feed them through the floor. Otherwise, you will want to do it this way. It is MUCH easier. Just take a long screw driver and hit it with a hammer to mark it. Then go to the engine bay and do your drilling. Part of the wiring inside the car may be close, so be careful when you do this step, or you might be ripping out the dash to fix it.

You will also need to widen out the hole for the new shifter. Cut as needed and drill new holes for the shifter to bolt in. Remember to seal up the hole from the bottom, or you will get a ton of exhaust heat coming up through there.

Other than that, bolt the new rear mount in.
If your car was an Si, you can use the stock harness, but you will have to extend the wiring for the alternator as well as add the wiring for the knock sensor. One thing that everyone is forgetting is that you need to add in the wiring for the EGR. If you don't, you'll want to run a chipped ecu, or deal with your CEL being on half the time.

Use the D series slave cylinder. If you use the H, the bleeder valve will hit the radiator fan shroud.

Use the axles you said you bought along with the mounts. Throw it in and extend the exhaust to meet up with the header.
Done.

This swap is not rocket science by any means, but it is more in depth than an average B sereis swap. You just have to know some of the tricks.
