OBDI motors, i believe the CKP sensor is in the distributor along with the CYP. If my mind serves me correctly, then you need to replace the distributor.

lucky bastards.

well just got home let it sit hood open in the sun and things dried out. it started right up let it warm up to normal operating temp. it has a small misfire problem prior and still does not sure if its just me paranoid or if it seems like its slightly misfiring a lil more. think i should still replace the dizzy or let it ride out and see? was trying to take it to the track for test and tune 2 morrow lol

what causes the misfire? is it completely random, at a certain load, rpm? These two may be related.

ever since i did the swap at idle you can hear a slight misfire at random times but frequently. the car runs really rich black stuff on bumper all the time. i havnt figured out the misfire cause. now im worried bc i changed the flywheel and i didnt think to mark tdc hope it came with tdc mark.

fidanza, ive timed the ignition but i guess im no good i cant rly find the right reference point to judge from. everytime i would look in and line things up if i moved a lil up or down or friend who is taller his line of sight makes the timing look off. so im not positive about its timing...

if you look in the helms they show you the right angle. basically you want to be lined straight up with the two nips.

they're slightly long so you can get some scope of how straight you are.

and yeah blake, the CKP, TDC, and CYP are all in the dist. on obd1s

When i got Code 4, my dizzy had a bent shaft in it from mechanic using a air chisel to it. But usually when you get that CEL it means replace the distributor

yeah im not sure about the check engine. i replaced that distributor like 4 months ago. worked fine then i washed today and it threw that code. unplugged the connector and there was a good bit of water in the plug. let it dry all day and it started so im not sure. im gunna take the cap off 2 morrow and look in there see if anything looks abnormal but i went and started car again and now check engine.

ok i know the thing on left is ignitor so im gunna guess the one on right is all the ckp tdc and cyp sensor? ive got a distributor with a bad ignitor hope i can just change the other part out?

The magnetic pickup coil on the right is the CYP sensor, it detects tdc for #1, thats why there is one point on the shaft there.

If you look underneath that plate, the TDC sensor (4 points) and the CKP (a lot of points, 32 I think) are in there.

The code didn't go away when it dried out?

It has always been custom to change ignitors, pickups, and coils together as a unit. I had a bad distributor keep burning coils periodically for the last 2 years, then I learned that point. Replaced the whole thing, and the problem is gone.

Those parts "wear into each other" in a manner of speech. Just get a new distributor off someone on here.

the code went away but when i started it today the idle was really rough for like 45 seconds it stopped a little when it warmed up but still sounded a bit different than normal. the gasket was broke in a spot on corner and some water/cleaner got into the cap so im not sure about it.

i can run either a td-61 or td-60 right?

I think so, though one of those might be internal coil.
