Default "Buzzing" or "Vibrating" noise coming from B&M short shifter????!!!!

So here is the situation: I just installed this short shifter http://www.modacar.com/product....html and a set of E.S. urithane bushings and now when I'm driving I get this 'buzzing" or "vibrating" noise coming from the shifter. It's get's louder when I am in 6th on the freeway and then let off the gas and start to slow down. It's mostly in 3rd and 5th. I'm just wondering what it could be? I Had a B&m short shifter before I put this one in but it was a "striaght stick" and it didnt' do this. I also didn't have the E.S bushings on it before. Could the bushings be causing it? Anyone ever have this vibrating noise?

Make sure the shifter linkage isn't rubbing up against the exhaust/heat shield.

It tends to do that a lot and the vibration from the exhaust comes up through the shifter.

man i had that same problem on my itr.... ha lol it the shifter. i bought a factory one and its fine now. what it is, is the b&m doesnt have a bushing the connects to the shift linkage(does but its not tight i think) and the noise is the vibration resonatiing up the shifter.... if you hold it does it stop....?

YES!!!!! it does stop when I hold it. So...does that mean it's not hitting the exhaust?

So what would be the fix?

i'm pretty sure the guy i bought my car from has a B&M short shifter on my '93 sol. it makes a noise like your describing when i shift into 3rd sometimes, and it does it every single time i go into fifth gear. once its in 5th though, it doesn't do it, just the shift-into is when i hear the noise. i just purchased a skunk2 dual bend short shifter and the skunk2 weighted shift ****. can't wait to try it.

i actually picked up the skunk2 dual bend short shifter and the **** as a combo package for
$128.00 shipped. let me know if your interested, i can give you the link to the guys eBay store.
they are genuine skunk2, and that is very cheap. the **** usually goes for $47.50 alone.

let me know bro, i'll help you out. skunk2 short shifters are supposed to be the most smooth short shifter you can get your hands on.

The B&M Short Shifter has a longer lower section under the fulcrum than the stock shifter, and is most likely vibrating against your heat shield on your catalytic converter.

Remove the heat shield.

its not hitting the heat shield that impossible.....like i said it doesnt fit tight so it rattles where it meets the shift linkage. get a better kit or put it back to stock.... i had a dc sport shifter.....now i got a stock

I had the same problem and after a couple of trips on my back to visit the underside of the car,
I came up with this solution:

like i said, i just installed my skunk2 short shifter today. it is extremely short, probably at least 50% shorter, i've never seen a throw this short in my life. definetly worth the money, no grinding, fits snug in place. took me about an hour and a half to two hours to install, but i'm only 16 years old with little-to-no experience in working on cars.

skunk2 dual bend short shifter =

I just got underneath the car and I have about a good 1-2 inches from the shifter "ball" and the exhaust. So i now know it's not hitting the exhaust.
