Default What should i do with my

99 civic lx, i want to upgrade it, aka boost and the works. But heres the catch, its automatic. Should i even think about upgrading a automatic civic? I mean it wouldnt be that bad would it? I just want more performance it sometimes bogs while going up hills, keep in mind that this is a stock 99 civic lx, i would like some ideas on how i can make it perform better doing easy tasks?

At least do a 5-speed conversion if you're planning on boosting. Honda Autos are notorious for having issues, especially if they're beaten on.

If you don't want to convert to manual, don't even bother modding your car. With that transmission, it's an 18-second turd.

manual conversion is what u need. hit up the junkyard and find ur year range and get all the parts. probably cost u like $150 or so.

Your car should not bog going up a hill, especially in an automatic since it will change the gears for you. Get a tune up, fix your car before you plan on modding it. Automatics are not usually the choice for a modded car, from what I've seen on here the torque convertors don't take well to boost or higher hp.

x2 ... Modding an automatic seems like a huge waste of time/money. Search around for auto-manual components if you have the money for it and do the swap. That will get put you in the right direction. If you dont have the money then just enjoy the mpg you get and steer clear of hills

Ok thaNKS for the posts hey what can i do other than boosting it to get more performance in the car, i mean it really isnt the fastest of cars, imagine it wouldnt be but it takes hills at 20 mph haha i got the finger quite a few times and almost got assended, i go no cel, nuttin, just got an oil change about july the begin of july that is. What do you suggest to do if i need a "tune up". It moves down hills though , also i dunno if this is the same for all civics of taht model and year but it seems like the gas pedal "jerks" you have to push hard at first and then that makes the car jerk a lot when accelerating, i dunno maybe thats just me thanks guys.

Again, unless you do an auto to manual conversion, any mods on that car are absolutely useless.

You need to have your trans fluid flushed. That is where you should start.

The auto to manual should cost more than 150 in parts alone. Trans, pedal assembly, shift linkage, ECU (chipped or manual) etc. , and the labor should be around 600+

For a auto trans flush that seems about right. I would call around where you live and get prices. Auto flushes are usually a flat rate, call and find the best price that fits your pocket book.

i guess its more expensive there. my friend had his auto oto manual conversion for cheap. maybe it was 300 but 600 is too much to spend i guess on the conversion. get the ls swap for that price. the ls auto tranny swap is cheaper too.

Why is it so funny? Someone said that in a post earlier?

I think he thought it was funny because you keep mentioning "performance" upgrades when I keep telling you that anything you do is useless with an auto.

i think he meant for the auto to manual swap...not a complete motor swap...

Read his newly acquired sig... it was the "performance" part that he found funny as wiZCo said.

An auto-manual swap would be a very realistic upgrade that would create a better platform to work off of. Anything short of that is a waste of time and money IMHO. That 1k you could spend on I/H/E could be better put towards a auto-manual swap.

Look in my sig to see why it's funny. It looks like you're saying you will pass on a manual swap for more performance out of an air filter.

BTW air filters give you minimal, if any, gain
