Default Random o2 censor CEL from time to time

I get a random check engine light every once in awhile on the highway. When i check to code it is the one blink pause (o2 sensor). When I get it after I restart the car it goes away. The weird thing is is that it had the stock o2 sensor and was doing it, and now has done it after I replaced it with a new one. It also does not happen consistently, just every once in awhile, and only on the highway. Any ideas on what is causing it would be much appreciated, I would have thought a new o2 sensor would have cured it. The only thing I can think that it would be is that since it is a jdm sohc zc, there is no telling how long it sat in a yard or container and no telling how much crap has been built up in it.. so it might be that at the higher rpm on the highway crap random breaks loose and burns out, overwhelms the sensor and then when I restart it it is fine because at that point its all normal.. any other ideas would be great.

my crx has had the same issue for the longest time and i still havent figured it out. I actually also have a jdm sohc zc in my car But it doesnt always mean it is the o2 sensor, it could be anything that would affect the car's a/f ratio, i.e. map sensor, purge system, tps maybe, etc. I personally have changed my o2 sensor, map sensor with another used one, the purge solenoid, and the tps to no avail. The only problem i found with mine was that the cam timing in my motor was advanced two teeth so it made it run extremely rich but pulled hard. And even after fixing that back to stock it still throws the code after awhile so i would also appreciate any help on this topic.

p.s. my car did the same thing with the stock d15b2 before i did the swap.

The weird thing is it doesnt happen consistently... maybe once a week, so once every 3-400 miles with most of that highway (got to love a long commute to school) so it is not bad enough to really do anything other than irritate me because I know something is not quite right and that I have to pull over and restart so that I am not driving around in safety mode. I bought the car with a blown a6 and the guy who sold it to me didnt seem to know up from down on a car other than it had a "jdm exhaust" (fart can I cut off and replace) and it was a "mustang killer" (stock a6 with 162k on it). I humored him though because I was getting a good deal haha. All that to say I dont know if it was doing it before I changed the engine, I would assume it was since you are having the same problem.

lol mustang killer my a@$. I read that the o2 wont put it into safety mode because i dont notice a difference when my code is on i still have the same performance. And i must say that those sohc zc's pull pretty damn hard for 118hp huh? I am a V8 guy who bought the car for the gas mileage but i am impressed after doing the swap and i still have the dx tranny too it still pulls though. I can just about keep up with my friend's 93 integra ls with a b16a swap and a y1 tranny and i smash on my other friend's 91 camaro rs

Yeah me and my friend kind of chuckled (I also have a Mustang gt) The whole reason I bought the car was because the stang gets a nice 15mpg or so. I am happy with the sohc zc. At this point all I really care about is gas mileage and parts that wear out not costing an arm and a leg, and being things I can easily do myself. I thought about putting in a dx engine, but I am glad I went with the zc because it has the benifit of not making me feel like I am going to die when I get on the highway or need to pass someone haha. I was going to go so far as to sell the Si tranny for something with longer gears and better gas mileage, but I am getting 33-35mpg pretty consistently, plus I am now tempted to build up the head and block and go turbo. All in all I am very happy with my little investment, and after I change the fuel pump tomorrow and figure out this stupid random CEL everything should be in great shape.

yeah that camaro rs is a pos 170hp chevy(i hate chevy's and love fords till the death) 305 (chevy's attempt at competing with the ford 5.0 that was in the mustangs....lol i cant believe they tried) V8 so it is nothing special but my friend loves his car so much and he is actually going to sell it now because he realized it isnt as fast as he though it was. But i have actually pulled off 55mpg in my car going to the beach and back all freeway with that dx tranny of mine. Normally though i get about 30 in the city and somewhere around 40 on the highway, i must of just really babied it that day i got 55

I'm going to second that RS bashing. That pathetic throttle body 305 motor just can't touch the Ford 5.0. Funny how that SOHC ZC pulled a V8 with such a large displacement advantage. I guess that's both a testament to Honda and another good laugh at Chevy. But anyway, keep trying hondacrx88zc, someday you might catch my B16A DA

The other thing that made those mid 80s to early 90s camaros such crap was all the emissions stuff that got stuck on it all of a sudden. It is amazing how slow chevy was to acclimate and compensate for the emissions crap. A good friend of mine had an 80 camaro that would put your eyes in the back of your head and an 85 iroc z28 that was the most dog slow piece of garbage.
This thread has totally been hijacked off topic haha. And that damn 02 sensor cel came back on today when driving, I really hope I dont end up having to just start replacing sensors untill it stops happening, especially if it turns out to be the harness or something obnoxious like that.

ironically i have the sohc zc as well and get this from time to time. When i drove from Louisiana to California to ship my rex out here, it came on once every 400-500 miles and then i would fill up, check and code 1, start the car, no cel and drives fine so kept going. did you do mpfi swap??(you said you had the d15b2 thats why i ask) i didint...just trying to think of a solution. Also, mine happened in the dppfi with the d15b2 as well.

on my rex that had a sohc with mpfi swap it never had this issue, so i dont know if it is related???
