Default Idling issue...

Hey guys, new to the game, Car is a 88 DX Sedan with the stock engine/everything, 155,xxx miles.

I start it up as normal, runs OK for a few minutes, then it starts to idle up, then down, then up, then down, and so on, each peak or valley lasting only a few seconds, almost to the same beat as you (human) breath (Inhale/exhale) to that pace.

For some reason, I put the AC on today and it seemed to alliviate the problem, which seemed weird, and as soon as I turned the AC off, it was back to its old tricks.

I appricate any and all help, Thanks!

-Shaun

Have u tried changing the IAC Idle Air Control. that always happens when its bad. First try disconnecting the IAC while its idling up and down. and if the Iddle goes to normal then replace it.

I agree, start there. I cleaned mine out with brake cleaner and it made a huge difference, mine went from a bouncy idle between 500 and 1500 rpm to always steady at 850 with a/c off and 1000 with a/c on.
