ECU chip (worth it or not?)
I've been told by some shop owners that ECU chip is like day and night, that I'll feel a big difference after they chipped my ECU.They said that for 400$ they could chip my P30.
I have a B16A JDM with i/e/h and cam gears,straight pipe 2 1/4.
What do you think?

try http://www.hcpengineering.com I know its a lot less than $400...gains are noticeable to an extent...but nothing beats dyno or wideband street tuning....to perfectly match your engine.

hope $400 is for extra dyno time and tuning of the ecu and motor otherwise you are getting ripped off
I sell my DIY kits for $59 and have had lots of success with the chips on a dyno, on similiar setup as yours I have gained about 7whp and 5lbs/ft of torque vs the stock JDM p30 program
remember that many programs have trade off, such as gas mileage, disabled sensors and so on. custom hondata or techtom chips can also be obtained but proper tuning technique must be followed.
It depends on how your motor is setup. A chip alone will not hit you like a shot of nAwZ or anything. Especially with what you got. I honestly wouldn't expect much if anything at all.

$400!!! sheesh..i hope your getting a full blown ecu A N D keeping your existing stock ecu for that much! or unless it's a reprogrammed OBD2 ecu. But if the shop wants to reprogram your existing ecu and its an 88-95 ecu....your getting ripped off.
we need more info from you like....
what year your car is ? & what engine mods you have (camshaft upgrade at all?)

Just buy one from ebay or something!! having a chipped ecu doesn't do ****!! everyone claims 10 to 15 hp depending on application but that's with MAJOR mods!! you only gain that extra hp after you surpass your oem redline!! i have 3 chipped ecu's and that's what i found out at my buddy's dyno at school. at most you'll gain 1 - 2 whp somewhere in the powerband but it's not really noticeble. at $400 you might as well save up for AEM or Hondata stand alone systems!! they work wonders...

For instance, the mugen program used on P28 ecu's is a real power maker (and gas guzzler too). Once you fine tune it on the dyno with an electronic fuel controller (sfc or vafc), a set of camsprockets, and at least a set of Type-R cams you will see the gains. This same program makes a tad over 8-12hp on turbo Honda's too. I had a friend who dynoed this. For an NA setup this program makes about 5-8hp once tuned...sometimes untuned also. Of course your engine setup is a factor as well.
So, a reprogrammed ecu isnt' bad at all to have. Especially when you have cams that extend the powerband beyond the factory 8400-8500rpm redline. It just depends on which program you go with and who you go with to reprogram the ecu.
