Replaced Clutch...CAR WONT GO IN GEAR
today me and a few buddies did a clutch on a 96 integra and after we're done it kind of weird. When holding down the clutch all the way to the floor in wont go in gear..but if we start letting the clutch go..it shifts smooth like butter. This is while the car is running and driving. Basically it will shift and drive perfectly normal if u hold the clutch half way, but if u hold it all the way down, it wont go in gear or it will go in but with some force. Anyone have any ideas?
everything was changed....this is just weird..did a few clutch jobs on hondas and this is the first one that does this...im thinking the throwout bearing is pushing too far and causing this? or is that even possible
what non-vtec said...bleed the clutch system, make sure the arm on the slave cylinder is out all the way with the clutch all the way in, also there is an adjustment for the throw on the back of the clutch pedal...but make sure the system is properly bled before you start messing with the adjustment

is the arm on the slave extending all the way? I really can't see you bending the clutch fork (is that even what it's called?) especially if you've done this a few times
have you tried the adjustment at the pedal?
only other thing I can mention is, I did a clutch on a toyota mr2 once and everything was perfect with the job, just happened to be a performance clutch and for some reason I had to shorten the arm on the slave cylinder to make everything work right, hope that helps

well...when i took it apart is b/c it wouldnt go in gear when the cars running, only when the car is shut off is when it will go in gear...once i took the tranny off...a part of the pressure plate was broken...im not sure if that part was flying around and caused something to bend/jam
Was that broken plate on the old clutch, or new, in either case, it would cause that problem.
Did you test the clutch on the mainshaft on the transmission for free operation before you put it on? Did you clean any rust on the shaft splines?
Can you hear any noise from the bellhousing with the clutch pressed? If the bearing is the wrong type/size, or its fork is bent, it could cause the fingers on the plate to contact the disc, and push the disc on the flywheel with the fingers, or the plastic inner race of the bearing could push it as well, which would explain why it works when you pull it back slightly.
