I just purchased a 99 gsr cheap that had a motor with a spun rod bearing. The head is fine, but we are rebuilding the bottom end with new badass pistons, rods, etc... The reason why it happened was related to the oil pan being welded back on poorly by the previous owner I believe Goodluck with fixing it!

What kind of noise was it making before you started tearing everything apart? was it just ticking or was it knocking? My brother had a spun bearing it was knocking like crazy.

ive put bearings in cars without removing the engine as long as the crank isnt damaged... bearings are not hard to do but a perfect time to freshen up the whole engine

thats what we r doing a week before this happened i put a skunk2 pro valvetrain so with this problem im going to just put new rings and make sure the ring landings r good im boosting in the future but i dont want to put low compression pistons in now or since i have to put new pistons in later should i just go with high comp pistons now would that really matter to the performance of the car but yea im putting eagle rods in pretty much everything except new pistons....unless high comp pistons would b good for my car now hmm....ill leave that for another post

Yea im going with the eagle h beam rods, I would say go with Je 11:1.1 compression pistons new proseal rings etc... buying them in a kit is usually cheaper. You can expect maybe 15 -20 hp gain running the higher compression like that on 93 octane. Make sure your crank is good too, gaskets etc. Good luck!

if you're going to boost in the future just get stock cr pistons. while higher cr pistons will give you more power now they'll force you to cut down on the boost later.

but if im changing the pistons later to low cr pistons anyway wouldnt i benefit, at least for now, with high cr pistons.....because im doing one of two things im either going to put new rings on my exsisting pistons or put high cr pistons in i just figured i would b better off now with the high comp pistons....right or is that a newbie way of thinking

if you wana waste the money to get new pistons and retune your engine then go for it. it's your car.

what kind of chip? is it an ebay chip, or a socket and reburnable chip? if it's an ebay chip, throw it away. if its a socket and reburnable chip, then you'll need to tune the ecu every time you change pistons for max power.

LOL i try to stay away from ebay theres a motorsports shop near me that has them and my mech can tune it i was thinking that after i put the boost to it that ill need to retune anyway so this way i can get the little extra power now and THEN later as well

its your money, do whatever you want. i wouldn't waste the money for pistons and a tune that'll be thrown away in the near future.

gwt new rings, using the old rings is just stupid. you already have it out and the sound of things you have money to waste

i would just go with lowered cr piston and new rods and rings now. less work later.
