Default Mystery motor.........

i made a thread a few weeks back about help trying to identify a motor that we got on a shipment. The problem was that the serial code was shaved off... but we do know this now.... its a b18c, has a type r head/intake manifold/throttle body, but gsr rods, unsure of pistons. has a y80 cable tranny. Has a p73 ecu but has some sort of piggyback wired in as well. what we are thinking is that its a gsr bottom, type r top and was in a pre 1992 civic/crx (cable tranny). Assuming the pistons are gsr, will this motor make "type-r like" numbers........ just looking for some input or past experience

I guarantee that at some point that block was stolen. I don't know about NC, but here in CA, you will not ever get your car back from the cops for having shaved SN's.

Could have been in a DA Integra also(they use cable trannies). If it has the stock GSR pistons it probably wont make the same power as the Type-R, it wouldn't have as high compression, if it had the Type-R pistons it would probably be pushing around the 11.4:1 compression ratio making it very much like the Type-R.

well these are (at worse case) jdm gsr pistons, which would be 10.6:1, as opposed to the 11.1:1 for the R, i didn't know if that alone would cause a sufficient difference.

why would you ever shave off a s/n or vin or anything of that matter unless it is stolen?

If it was a shipment from Japan then most likely it wasn't stolen. If it was from the U.S., then it is HOT.

Please explain your thinking there. Why would it be normal for the VIN/SN to be shaved if it's from Japan? That just makes me think it was first stolen in Japan. Either way, don't get caught driving that in CA.

he is right it did come from japan, it came in a shipment and i don't know if it was scratched off when the owner was in japan purchasing it... it takes like 3 months to get it from japan to us. we put a serial number on it, but aren't selling it, one of the owners will probably take it.
