Just changed my oil... but something weird happened...
I recently purcahsed a 2000 4 dr GSR that was theft recovery. I decided to change the oil tonight so I drove it up on those rhino ramps, went to the gym (1.5 hours) and came back to change the oil. I drained the oil from the oil pan and then started to unscrew the oil filter. To my amazement/concern, the filter had no oil in it. Nothing dripped out which it usually does on every other car I worked on. There was some residue of oil but not much. The inside of the filter did look used but I still can't get over why there's no oil in it.
Did this ever happen to anyone?

It looked somewhat moist...it was like someone took a normal oil filter out and let it drain for an hour.
Oil pump... where's that? How do I make sure that's there? THe oil looked ok... nothing out of the ordinary. It was dark dark brown color
Thanks for the help
Edwin
UPDATE
Ok, I just went back and looked at the oil filter. I stuck my finger into it and touched the inside walls and it was semi-moist (slight residue of oil on my fingers). However, I started to shake the filter and oil started to slowly seep out. I can hear the oil inside the filter. Is this something I should be concerned about? Any ideas?

What did the oil level look like before the oil change? If it was low then that could happen if you let it sit. Happend on my friends 2000 ls. If it didnt have oil circulating in it your car would be knocking and probably seize up.
The oil level was topped off a few days ago. I have driven the car to work this week (I bought it last sat). Should I be driving the car at all then?

Ur filter probably had a faulty anti-drain back valve. Not to big of a deal but whenever u start ur motor, ur pretty much dry starting it every time, unlike a primed filter where the oil is right their and pressure builds instantly.
Poke a hole in the top of the filter and more oil will drain out.
Dont worry, oil pump not shot IMO.

I didn't even think of that.

Thanks for the info. I drove the car to work this morning (25 miles) and everything seemed fine. If there was something wrong with the pump, shouldn't my oil light come on? Also, IF my pump was bad, how long would it be before the motor seized up?
I plan on taking out the filter when I get home to see if oil drips out. Anyone have any other ideas or things I should do to make sure everything is functioning properly?
