Default Cleaning pistons carbon buildup

The pistons are in the block... ive been using brake clean, gum cutter, seafoam, carb cleaner and its working decent however there is still some carbon on the pistons, i dont want to destroy the deck however want these things cleaned as good as i can get them.

They will still get dirty so don't try to polish them up

This is what worked for me ...>> Spray carb cleaner on a rag and scrub with lots of pressure from your hand. Grab a box cutter and carefully work away at the carbon build up that is toast onto the piston. This is what I did while my cylinder head was out and they came out great. Be patient, this method should take about 30 minutes per piston.

what i did was crank the engine to half dead center, is that even a term? haha, but basically so all the pistons are about even, then fill each bore up with ATF and let it soak until the atf eventually seeped through the rings, then did it again, it softened up the caked on carbon a good deal. then i went and cleaned them off with carb cleaner and seafoam or something, i forget. u can gtry soaking with seafoam instead as well, probably all the same!

^^^ i tried doing that first
but the atf wouldnt seep down after 2 days of letting sit
so i had to scoop the damn atf out of the cyls

lol^^

you could try a hard brush maybe even a wire brush or some sort of mild dremel attachment, just put the thing at tdc so you don't hit the cyl. wall

My first question is.....why do you need to clean it to the bare metal?

My second question is...why not just use sea foam/atf once every couple of weeks. it will eventually clean out the combustion chamber.

Lastly, you can clean it all you want, it's going to carbon up regardless. That's just the nature of the beast.

oh yeah, my vote goes to higher compression as well

i just used steel wool and it got it to where its mostly all off on the head of the piston but i couldnt get all of the carbon out around the valve reliefs. I was alittle worried about hitting the deck because i believe the honda spec is .004 out and u should mill, it there anyway i can take material out with steel wool or would it have to be alittle more gritty like sandpaper or something to actually take material off the deck ?
