Default How is this guy's welds?

might get my manifold make by a local welder here
but i am not sure if his welds are good or not...
for sure the color doesn't look that pretty, but as i read on this forum, colors can lie.

what do you expert thinks? i might be ordering a mini-ramhorn or a log mani from him.
material he said he is going to be using will be schedual 10 SS

well he seems to have a good consistency but the welds look heavily contaminated.

also cant really tell how well its penetrated but it doesnt look too thick anyways..

and maybe my eyes are playing a trick on me but in the second picture is that 1/8th thick steel being welded to that t3 flange?

something is way too dirty. could be poor sharpening of the tungsten, no prep on the metal, too much heat... i would also question the penetration...

That 2nd pic shows the metal still glowing after the torch has been removed, a sure sign of not enough post-flow.
I'd avoid his work, if thats what he's sending as an example.

He must have a huge gas lens to be post purging that red hot weld from so far away!

I wouldnt have him make me a manifold.

his welds would suffice for making a windchime or maybe a tool box cart.

His welds look alot like mine from a while ago. Send him over here for some feedback on getting better. Even with all the BS and smack talk, HT is still an awesome place for weld/fab feedback.

Yeah...those welds are pretty horrible I'd say. For him to finish welding the flange, pick up the camera, then take a pic and have it still glowing to that extent is pretty shocking. If he can't weld any better than that in a basic straight weld, there's no way his welds will be worth a damn making a tightly spaced ram horn. NO WAY...... Tell him to get some practice before he even thinks of selling anything.

Jesus H Christ.
Check the FI forum, there are at least a dozen people selling logs for $300 or so, and ramshorns for there abouts or less.
Not in any particular order, and I'm not going to get them all, nor am I endorsing anyone):
RC Autoworks https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/1935809
RLD-Fab https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/1851250
TD Autowerkes https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/1842498
Spoolin Performance https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1404253
SLS https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=2038729

And TONS AND TONS of others. AFI (Jesse) https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/2043732 still makes manifolds, people on this forum... If this guy was making the log for like $100, maybe, MAYBE I'd consider it in a pinch, but for more than a lot of proven people are selling them for, no way in hell.

Support the people who have proven themselves as supporters of h-t's folks.

I'm going to be 100% brutally honest.

I can mig stainless at least 10 times better than that. I'm not even good at it either.

Tell him with that weld quality he should be paying you to rock his work on your car.

The end.

But since I'm really a nice guy send him our way and we can help him get better.

Just for reference though, I sell my logs locally for 215.00 and this is a pic of one that i took half done from almost a year ago. I still sell them for that price locally, and my weld quality is now far better than pictured. That guy selling near you needs to get his head out of his ***.

Like I said, my manifolds are NOT for sale here...just for reference I am posting this. There are many good sponsors on here selling very high quality, affordable manifolds.

awww....wtf.....lol.....I really wasn't layin down malarkie

I can't even remove it to prove it, cause wade quoted it. I feel bad now. I was trying to be super anti-malarkie on that deal too. I only sell locally.....that's keeps me plenty busy, believe me. If I want to sell on here I'll do the sponsor thing...I'm not trying to block people by any means. I take that sh*t to heart....no "malarkie" from me.
