Just bought a open trailer(for 2 bikes) from my friend.. went to DMV to register it. the trailer was registered in NJ.. and im trying to register it to NY, they said that the VIN# doesnt show on system , and i need to take a pic of the vin # on the trailer.. i tried looking for it and all i find is serial# A-801899 but on the title Vin# is 4YMUL07142V010041.. so i dont know where to find the Vin# matching the title.. I also have the registration from my friend that i can show to DMV.. if i cant find the VIn# at my trailer, how can i register it?

 

I don't know how it works in NY or NJ, but in VA if you home-build a trailer then you can schedule an appointment with the DMV where they send a State Police office to your place, he inspects it for safety and road-worthiness, and then you submit his inspection and a home built trailer form to the DMV and they issue a Home Built Trailer title.

I don't know if this'll work since you already have a serial number or not. You might want to get creative with the TIG welder and grinder to fill in that serial number if it's stamped into the metal.
