our local website requires we post vins in our for sell threads. we got into an argument over this. i said we should supply them upon request through pm. one of the mods said it wasnt possible to find a car through the vin. i dont know for sure so i thought i would ask you guys. the po box idea is great.
Your mod doesn't know everything. Yes you can get he registered address with a VIN. Go to DMV and request a title search $10 later you have every prior owners address.
Some states like Oregon now block this. But every state is different so you would need to check with your local DMV.

A small fee and 15min is all it takes here to get a printout of registered owner and address and if there is any leans or chattels on the car and who holds them.

I cover both the vin and my plates when I am at an autocross meet or show and shine with the autocross club, and a parking stub covers it the rest of the time

Most states now block this info to the public. You need a tag # to get an address and like I said, most states will not give you this info anymore. With a VIN you can get a tag # and with a tag # you can get an address.
Not to mention, anyone who works at Honda can get a key made for your car with your VIN!!!

incorrect, you need to have some sort of documentation that you own the vechile or its in your name... unless you know the worker at the parts counter really well.
but still even if someone had a key made for my car they would have a tough time getting the alarm to go off lol.

Dude I'm not incorrect. I said "anyone who WORKS at Honda can get a key made for your car". I never said anything about them being allowed to do this.
