I thought I would post some information concerning buying a used car and
trying to get title information.
A man called me today at the delaership where I work, he was looking into purchasing a used 2.5 TL. He was questioning the service history and I looked it up and found the vehicle had only been here once. Then as I usually always do, I ask if I can run a VIN status inquiry. Most dealership employees will know this can be done but here is the catch. I found out the vehucle was a salvaged title but he had a Car/Fax report that showed it was not. Whats up with that. I am sure any dealer of any manufacturer can run that status report since it has to be ran to see
if there are any open recalls on a vehicle.
Sorry for the length, I just have met to many people who have bought a vehicle that was "bumped and fixed "and then we find it is a salvaged title.

so how does one report say salvage and carfax does not? this is a scary piece of info because so many people depend on carfax and i might be looking into an another used car soon

Thats why I posted it, and then I told one of my F and I guys, finance and insurance
managers and he said if someone looks around the car fax site they will see the
disclaimer that they do not guarantee the search. Now the cool thing is they can
sometimes have a great title search that of course lets you see how many times
the vehicle was sold and where. One of the most important questions when buying
a used vehicle from a private owner is, Why are they selling it?
Anyway I thought it might be useful.
