Default Bad Synchro or trans?

My trans shifts smooth as can be, but sometimes when I go to put the car into 3rd gear trans will grind, other times it won't. Now I know Hondas 3rd gear synchros, but this happens at such odd intervals that I am not sure if it is the synchro. It does it sometimes at low RPMs and almost always when I go past 6500 RPMs. The odd thing is sometimes when I am approaching a particular turn I will pop my clutch because if I don't my tires will squeal when go through it (Not because my speed in excessive, just because of the way the terrain shifts). So even with my clutch popped for say 5-10 seconds when i go to put it in gear it grinds a little. I for some reason think it has something to do with the clutch, however it doesn't happen in any other gears.

I should mention I have a hasport Cable to Hydro conv. and sometimes it jerks the engine/trans hard when I pop the clutch at higher rpms in low gears.

What do you think, just a synchro?

sounds like a synchro to me. go to a GM dealer and get some synchro-mesh, its 15 dollars a quart but it works wonders... 2 quarts should be enough.

yes, but i believe he would like to fix it properly if in a financial state that gives him that capability. Simply dumping in a liquid band-iad isnt the best thing to do. Now if he just wants it to go away and cut down the severity of it, then yes some synchromesh or some redline shockproof superlight gearoil is the key. Just saying that he may want to properly fix the problem.

also, boosted are you right in pittsburgh? My sister goes to duquesne and lives right next to mellon arena, I go visit her in the REX here and there, thought maybe there is a chance we might see each other around.

Mine does the same thing going into third, just take it easy until you can get it fixed and you should be fine.

Does anyone know if theres a magnet on the drain plug of the trans, to catch small metal particles from the grinding that is happening?

No. Gear grinding is caused by rounding of the synchro teeth. If you are grinding gears your synchros are worn.
