Default Oil Filter Q...quick help...

I've heard it's best to change the oil using Genuine Honda filter's, and if not done with a honda filter, that VTEC won't engage after a while, or it will damage the engine itself in the long run, is this true? someone enlighten me, as i'm about to change the oil again, and can get other filter's for alot less. Thanks!

any oil filter will work, although k&n, honda, or mobil one tend to be better. no matter what filter you use, its not going to disrupt vtec or harm the engine, as long as the filter is correct and installed right.

i've use mobil 1 filter for about a year now. no problems. i believe it has nothing to do with vtec engaging. filter is just a filter, just make sure you get the correct filter for your car. vtec wont engage if u have low oil and will cause damage.

u dont even have to use the correct oil filter. some people have used "oversized" filters for their cars. I dont know if it has been done in detail with the rsx or not, but for the H series engines, i remember people using really big oil filters.

It will lower oil pressure by a little and because the filter is bigger, you will have to add slightly more oil.

As for me, i've been using the honda oem s2000 filter and mobil 1 5w30 for every oil change of my car and i haven't had a problem with oil leaking out of the filter or anything.

Use HAMP filters. They are a copy of the Japanese Honda OEM filters (much better construction than the US OEM counterparts.)
