Here is a tech horror story for you
I just bought my '93 hatch and I was doing my oil change. Everything was going normal...drained it, let it drip for ever. I got back under the car and took the oil filter off...easily. Too easy....I then saw the base of an older oil filter underneath! It looked like someone had torn off the head of the old filter and had been lazy as hell and had just stuck the filter on top of the base of the older one. Never buy Fram!!! BTW...honda's oil filter internals are actually Fram. I use Nippon. My mechanic (who REALLY knows his ish about honda's) was cutting filters open and found this out. Nippons actually use the best filter spread and all that. Just thought I would share

goddamn that sucks, i heard the Canadian honda filters are Fram, and the U.S. Honda oil filters are made by Filtech or something like that, i heard they are better than the Canadian oil filter. how much do the Nippon's go for?

Actually honda filters are made by Filtech for the most part.
There used to be a HUGE thread about this here tnat BDC and myself were taking part in.
The insides are just fine by me IMO.

For the most part when I used to buy Honda filters, I would have to specify a made in USA filter, otherwise they would give me a made in Canada filter. Canadian-made filters are identical to Fram filters on the inside, w/ cardboard endcaps and all. The Made in USA Filtech filters have metal endcaps, and just a general overall better construction than the Fram ones.

From what I gather the Honda filter is still superior as it has an anti dran back valve which helps ensure oil stays in the head of the motor. This is crucial for start up lubrication to prevent valvetrain wear.
Someone correct me if am mistaken but i believe the above info is correct.

Honda recently switched makers I beleive. The company that used to make them (filtech) also makes bosch. The bosch ones are of the same quality.

and does anyone know where to get the nippon oil filters b/c id like to check them out.

this may sound stupid but the jdm honda filters are susposed to be better than the usdm and cdm, and the hamp filters are susposed to be good.

After reading the thread with BDC, I started using these.
Not the correct filter #(I don't feel like going downstairs), but it is about twice the size of the stock filter.

i posted this few minutes ago on another thread. indeed Honda Canada did change to Fram recently . I did stock up the filtech filters. so it should last me few months.

I use STP, cheap and the insides are the EXACT same as bosch and mobil 1, except that mobil1 has a coated element.

i use fram or honda. been usin them forever. no problems with either. maybe the last guy who had the car was just stupid. most filter problems i've seen are due to user error or lack of knowledge, not the filter itself...unless it was a particularly defective one of course.

I use K&N filters. I like the fact that they have the nut on the end of them so you can use a wrench to take them off, makes the whole process just sooo much easier. Anybody have any bad experiences with them?

My dad changed his 95 EX's filter one time and the rubber gasket was still stuck on the car and he didnt realize it and he put another filter on top of it and he started his car up and nothing happened, then next morning at like 4:30AM when he goes to work he drove like 1/4 mile down the street and his oil light went on, needless to say there was and oil trail all down the street. The filter was a fram (old one and the new one), we still use fram but we always check the gasket on the old filter just in case, that oil change cost us a whole oil change and almost came close to locking up the motor or other damage. Sucks but meh S**t happens.
