what are you talking about? do you want to change the filter then drive around with old oil? or did you change the oil and not the filter? you can change the filter with oil still in the engine, oil wont leak out from where the oil filter sits. if thats what you are asking.

what happened was i took my car to get full tune-up at honda dealer the last time i got my oil changed. well like always 2000 miles later it was due for another one. i got the new oil and a new filter. i have this tool that fits rite over the filter and uses a rachet to unscrew/screw the filter. well my special tool doesnt fit the honda filter so i had no choice but to change the oil but not the filter. so i have to buy another special tool to change the freaking honda filter. so will any oil spill out from the filter hole while the oil is still in there?

Unless you're using some liquid gold at $5+ a quart, suck it up and change em both, AGAIN. It's ONLY your car!

There will be oil in the old filter when you pull it off, but that will be the extent of the leakage. The oil in the engine drains down to the oil pan when the car is not running.

And the special tool that you're referring to is called a filter wrench.

if your working from underneath the car you shouldnt need your 'special tool' the filter should only put on hand tightness then a 1/4 turn so it should come off easily too, and arent filter wrench's adjustable, the one i have has a chain that locks to the size of the filter.

Yes, there are adjustable ones, but whether they're adjustable or not, they're still referred to as filter wrench's. If it fits completely around the filter, it's a wrench. If there are two handles that you squeeze together to clamp on the filter, then you're using filter pliers.
