Default Need mechanic in Seattle area for fuel supply problem

I need a local mechanic, preferably someone who can come by my place since the car doesn't run. I have a complicated problem with my fuel supply, detailed here: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1994639

Cliffs: Fuel pump only operates during initial 2-second prime when ignition is turned on, sometimes for a couple seconds when the engine is started too, but sometimes it doesn't even prime at all. Have replaced the ECU, main relay, and fuel pump (from '99-00 Civic Si - I have a cam setup which wanted a bigger pump anyway) and still have the problem. I tried to test the eletrical stuff, but I suck horribly with electrics. At my wit's end and don't know what to do. The car is sitting in my parking space in Capitol Hill in Seattle. Cash in hand for any certified mechanic who can come by and check it out - extra cash for finding what's wrong.

I'm not a certified mechanic but i've been working on hondas for 5 year or so. I can come by and take a look at it for you for no charge. I live in UW so your not to far away from me.

Yeah, almost surely. I am terrible with electrical anything though so it's hard for me to test things accurately (I have a multimeter and have tried, with limited success).

That would be very appreciated, thanks! I'll at least throw in some beers for the effort. Are you good with electrical stuff? Pretty sure it's not mechanical, as it was running great before and I've replaced the main relay, fuel pump, and ECU already. Probably some wiring thing somewhere. I had a problem with fuel kill switches where I had to run a higher-amperage fuse for a while just to get anywhere, so that may have messed some things up (yeah I'm an idiot... kill switches have been uninstalled btw). I also haul my race tires in the backseat area with no seats, so one of them may have hit a wiring loom or harness and caused problems. I'm just too inept at testing circuits to really know.

Let me know if you can come check it out. I actually work at Safeco down the street from UW and I'm usually off work around 4:30-5... maybe if I ride with you it'll make it easier for you to find my place. Do you go to UW?

if you were closer I could certainly fix it.. remove the bottom half of the back set and splice into the fuel pump wire.. I think its yellow with a green stripe. connect a direct power to and if the fuel pump runs then its definatly electrical..

Do you have any type of fuel pump cut off switch? The switch could have gone bad which is whats causing this.. If you don't, now would be a good time to add it since you might be splicing into the wires..

I had a similar problem which was due to a ground wire not being completely tight.

As said above, the fuel switches I had before were uninstalled. The switches actually caused a problem because the extra wire resulted in too much resistance, which is why I blew fuses and had to run a higher amp fuse for a while before I took the switches out.

It could very well be the ground wire, I'm just not sure and I suck at figuring it out and if I do, how to fix it properly. The pump used to sometimes work for a few seconds, and sometimes not... though lately it's just been "not".

This might be a stupid question, but does the main relay have to be bolted down in order to be grounded and work? Because after I installed the new one, I've left it hanging and haven't bothered to bolt it back down to the tucked-away area by the hood release. I kinda doubt it, but I'll try it when I get home.

Ok I'm getting 12V to the plug that goes directly to the fuel pump itself (not just the one under the access panel, but if you undo the 6 bolts and 2 hoses to get into the actual tank and test the harness going straight to the pump), yet the pump will not prime. Doesn't that mean that the pump itself is definitely 100% faulty?

I replaced my old pump with a '99-00 Civic Si one from a seller on H-T (from what I've read and have been told, it is the same as the GS-R/ITR pump and fits... the harness was a tighter fit than on my stock pump but it seemed to fit). Maybe the Civic Si pump isn't interchangeable after all? Maybe the seller sold me a faulty pump, even though it was supposedly brand new and looked like it? The pump did prime a few times when I first installed it, but only ran for a couple seconds max once the car was started, then eventually stopped even priming at all and it's been lifeless since. I'm borrowing my sister's '01 GS and swapping her pump in Tues. evening.

if you diretly wired up the pump and it doenst click on then the pump is bad.. I dont think the gsr is a direct fit. I swapped out a my cousins si pump for a gsr pump a while back and I'm almost we just took the actual pump itself off the gsr and put it on the si so frame and everything was from the si...

If you tried to wire up the pump and it didnt work it possibly its not grounded.. Just do what I said to do from the start. Leave the pump in bolted in with all the lines still attatched INCLUDING the plug. Either find the spot where it had been spliced into before and connect the 12v power up there or splice into it again and try.. If your pump works it wont just prime it will run continuous.

Also, the main relay does not need to bolted down for it to work

I did call you up, son! I left you a message on Myspace and your phone asking if you knew anybody in the area (besides you, I know you're really busy these days and a long drive away). But no worries, I'm glad I was finally able to fix it on my own (with a ton of help on H-T) and have been happily non-VTECing around Learned a lot in the process, too.
