the end of bad gas mileage is here!!! i found out the other day that the a/c turns on when you have the front windshield defroster/foot vent on..... but the a/c light does not light up.. ever since i bought my car, i have pretty much been using that vent selection. when you set it to front defrost, the car automaticaly turns on the a/c to dry the air coming out of the vents, because it defrosts better that way

that makes sense. Sometimes late at night when I get off work I have to turn on the defogger and I feel power instantly drop. I kinda figured the a/c turned on but I was never sure.

I defrost my windows by allowing the heat/outside temp air to vent through from the outside. So... even when I don't have the **** "on" but my light set to vent I am still using the A/C? I can't hear the compressor at all...

What he is saying is true. There's a way to program your buttons so that when you put it on defrost, your AC light actually turns on. I did it to mine and now I know exactly when the AC turns on

There's a hack that can decouple the A/C from the Defroster.

To deactivate automatic a/c feature on a 2002+:

1) Turn the ignition switch "on," but dont start the car.
2) Turn fan speed off.
3) Turn temperature **** all the way to the left (blue area).
4) you need to push the button for the dash panel vent
5) Turn the ignitions switch "off."
6) Hold down both air recirculation button and a/c button while turning the ignition switch "on." Nothing lights up initially, keep waiting. The orange air recirculation indicator on the button will start flashing.
7) Continue holding both buttons until the orange air recirculation indicator stops flashing, then let go.

To reactivate automatic a/c feature on 2002 CR-V:

1) Turn vehicle off.
2) Turn fan **** off.
3) Turn temperature **** all the way to the left (blue area).
4) 4) you need to push the button for the dash panel vent
5) Hold down both air recirculation button and a/c button while starting car.
6) Continue holding for 7 seconds until air recirculation button stops flashing.
7) After the 7 seconds described in step 6, the recirculation button will start to flash. Continue to hold the button for another 7 seconds. After this, the a/c light will turn to green and it's finished!
